Not to derail this post -- much -- but, didn't the NHL consider the San Jose Sharks a split of the Minnesota/Cleveland merger? I think it'd be neat and appropriate if the Sharks acknowledged or adopted (at least) the Seals' history and records. A Seals throwback would also be awesome.

They did earlier this season, kinda; https://www.nhl.com/sharks/news/sharks-set-to-honor-50th-anniversary-of-california-golden-seals/c-285287658

I went digging for Kings photos recently and here were some of the more interesting/rare.

The lesser known alternate vs alternate game between the Kings and Ducks.

Burger King vs Dallas (only pic that I could find of that game)

(Half) Throwback Gold vs Modern Oil Drop 3rd

Tough to see, preseason 1967 with Minnesota in green and the Kings in "forum blue"

I'm not a huge hockey guy -- per se. Well, outside of aesthetics of the game. What are the LA Kings' appropriate colors? Purple/Black, Black/Silver or Forum Blue/Gold?

A lot of this can go under Rare Uniform Matchups.

That's true, but threads like this are fun enough that I don't think we have to be too tough about it. It's fun to see this stuff without having to go through pages of NFL and NBA stuff anyway.

The team can't decide, so how can we?

Lately they seem to feel black and silver are the most appropriate, given the Gretzky ties and Cup ties.

Also, that pic of Yzerman and the flames isn't rare is it? That's not even the current flames uniform..It's pre-edge all around.

Not super rare, but I was at this Colorado Avalanche and New York Islanders game

It was the first year of the Avs' alternates and the last of the Isles' Edge jerseys. The two teams could've only worn these jerseys against each other once, and it was at this game.

I've always thought the silver and black was to catch both the #99 uptick in sales and the LA Raiders being there. Add to that NWA's popularity and wearing of the gear... it got pretty set.

I happen to love their gold look.

It was all over the place, but I would say black and silver.

That was what Gretzky wore, and Gretzky was the guy who made the Kings "matter" for the first time in their history. That look was followed by purple and black, which coincided with some of the worst years in team history.

Then they went back to black and silver and won two Cups.

So black and silver is associated with all of the team's highpoints while the various purple schemes are associated with the low points.
