Gretzky in 90's oilers duds (Not exactly but close)

That one is interesting.  Never seen him in that.  I really do like those jerseys. Also, there aren't any shoulder patches on them, even though they're alumni (OILUMNI) ha!

Some more Kings related pics.

Another Preseason '67 color vs color this time against Philadelphia (taken from a video about expansion)

Just a really nice match-up vs St. Louis

There are a lot of pictures from a 1967 tilt between the Kings and Leafs.

And from a game in the 1980s.

Lastly, a weird one against Washington. The Caps only wore red pants their first season in 1974, but Dionne didn't join the Kings until 1975. The caption on Getty puts it even later at February 1980. Anyone know why the Caps would still have red pants 6 years after they supposed last wore them?

If the caption is correct, then this game is February 26, 1980, a 5-3 Washington win. The opposing player is listed as Peter Scamurra, which doesn't help at all, because he was with Washington for both seasons in question.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

Not to derail this post -- much -- but, didn't the NHL consider the San Jose Sharks a split of the Minnesota/Cleveland merger? I think it'd be neat and appropriate if the Sharks acknowledged or adopted (at least) the Seals' history and records. A Seals throwback would also be awesome.

I don't think the NHL considers them actually part of the Seals franchise, but if you look at the history of what happened, I'd say they are.  It's surprisingly unambiguous.

When the Gunds agreed to merge the Barons into the North Stars, they actually became the majority owners of the North Stars.  They then retained that for the next 13 years, and after not being able to convince the NHL to let them move the North Stars to the Bay Area, they convinced the NHL to let them sell the team to Howard Baldwin and start up the Sharks as an expansion team in 1991. When they left they were able to take a certain % of the North Stars roster with him, and drafted the rest from the other 19 teams in a quasi-expansion draft.

There's definitely a connection in ownership between the Seals/Barons and Sharks, although whether they're the same "franchise" or not is sort of fuzzy.

For me, the smoking gun is that Minnesota also participated in that "expansion" draft along with the Sharks. Whether or not the NHL calls it one, that's about as close to a de-merger as you can get. The icing on the cake is that there's one owner to follow from Seals to Barons to North Stars to Sharks.

Curtis Brown sighting, my all-time favorite! Love that Sabres set for that era, would love to see a simplified & recolored version as a modern 3rd

Curtis Brown? All time favorite? He was my AAA coach for about 3 years in San Jose. I bet he'd be happy to hear that he is someone's all time favorite, I'll tell him next time I see him at the rink!

MacInnis wore the 94-00 Flames away jersey during the launching. A few weeks later, he signed with St. Louis Blues. He never wore this during an actual NHL game.
