I was thinking of the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, but are there any other teams out there that can be or are peoples' names?

There are a lot of cities that honor someone, and thus feature a "name", if that's what you mean...?  Or are you thinking the full team name is a person's name?

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I've heard the last name "Royal" (1990s NBAer Donald Royal).  The Rays.  The Kings.  The Hawks (AJ Hawk).

I'm sure we'll get people responding with Blue JAYS, PATriots, and the like.  Or also things like Ravens (a nod to a particular person).

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Technically the Charlotte Bobcats were named by their owner, after himself (Robert "Bob" Johnson).

I get what you're getting at, though, and I don't think there are any teams whose names are/were real people other than Buffalo and Cleveland (?).

The Kings.

I should have thought ahead and done this all at once.

Some soccerball examples that spring to mind, all named after real people...

  • Vasco de Gama - Brazilian side named after the Portuguese explorer.
  • Tottenham Hotspur - said to be named after medieval nobleman Sir Harry Hotspur.
  • Willem II - named in honour of the Dutch king.
  • Kaizer Chiefs - named after one of their founders, South African player Kaizer Motaung.
  • Club Athletico Douglas Haig - an Argentine team honouring the British First World War Field Commander.
  • Northwich Victoria - English non-League side named after Queen Victoria.
  • FC Santa Claus - Finnish outfit named after the jolly red-clad present giver.

In the 1910s, before baseball teams' nicknames had settled down, the Brooklyn National League team hired Wilbert Robinson as manager.  The team won a couple of pennants and became known as the Brooklyn Robins, even though many newspapers continued to call them by an older nickname, the Superbas, and even though the team's own official materials had already begun calling them the Dodgers.

By the time Robinson's tenure as manager ended in 1931, the name Dodgers had become fully established.

Has there ever been horizontal pinstripes on undies on uniforms?

I think Accrington take their name from the street they were originally based on, rather than an actual person. But Crewe are indeed named after a proper person - Princess Alexandra of Denmark.

Right about Stanley . Chile has O'Higgins (after Bernardo I think) and there is a Belgrano in Argentina

If we want to expand that way, you have to include Newell's Old Boys.

Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys is an Argentine sports club based in Rosario, Santa Fe. The club was founded on 3 November 1903, and is named after Isaac Newell, one of the pioneers of Argentine football.
