smzimbabwe
Were there not enough Canadian cities? The league has added an expansion team in China. The Kunlun Red Stars. I know they don't pay their players, so someone is sinking a lot of money into this.
raysox
That's uhhh pretty interesting. Especially since I found out this week National Pro Fastpitch has a Chinese travel team starting this year called the Beijing Shougang http://www.excellesports.com/news/softball-npf-chinese-team-2017/ Probably the Chinese government funding Olympic team sports with low start up costs. @MichaelDanger19 | Dribbble
Geoff
It's not that there weren't enough cities. Kunlun Red Star (no S) were starting a women's team as well as a second men's team. They hired Digit Murphy last season to guide them in the process and select a league they would join. The Russian Women's league doesn't have teams in the Far East and the quality isn't as high as the NWHL/CWHL. So if you're going to fly forever to play away games, you might as well go with the higher quality of play. Especially when your goal is to improve the level of women's hockey before the 2022 Beijing games. They haven't said how much they paid but they made sure to let it be known they paid a fairly hefty expansion fee.
