Jimbo to A&M is pretty much official. He resigned and won't coach FSU tomorrow.   FSU looking at Taggart to replace him.

I hope they don't get Taggart.  I was watching videos of his Gulf Coast offense at USF and getting excited when he was a possible candidate in Gainesville. I think he'd do well at FSU.

Ole Miss penalties.

Quote

Penalties and corrective actions imposed by the panel include:

Three years of probation from Dec. 1, 2017, to Nov. 30, 2020.
A financial penalty of $5,000 plus 1 percent of its average football budget for three years, which was calculated at $179,797 (self-imposed by the university).
A postseason ban for the 2017 (self-imposed by the university) and 2018 seasons.
The head coach must serve a two-conference-game suspension for the 2018 season should any NCAA school hire him between Dec. 1, 2017, and Nov. 30, 2018.
An eight-year show-cause order for the operations coordinator, during which he must not hold any athletically related duties or have contact with prospective student-athletes and their families.
A five-year show-cause order for the assistant coach who facilitated standardized test fraud and living arrangements. He must not hold any athletically related duties during this time.
A two-year show-cause order for the other involved assistant coach. During this time, he must not participate in off-campus recruiting activities or hosting any meals for prospects or student-athletes.
A five-year show-cause order for the assistant athletics director. He must not participate in any recruiting activities during this time.
Vacation of all regular-season and postseason wins in which ineligible student-athletes competed.
Scholarship reductions through 2018-19, as detailed in the public report (self-imposed by the university).
Recruiting restrictions, as detailed in the public report.
Disassociation of boosters, as detailed in the public report (self-imposed by the university).

Ridiculously easy. Jim Tressel got a five year show cause for not reporting that his kids sold off gifts from bowl games and their gold pants as well as knowing that a few guys with summer jobs were getting paid more than they should have.Ohio State also had games taken away that haven't been returned. At one point the 2009 Penn State game didn't officially happen for either team, but Penn State and Paterno got that one added back.

So Aggie gives Jimbo 10 years for $75M, meanwhile UCLA only gave Chip Kelly 5 for $23M, ASU wants to be "mid-range", and Oregon State gave first time HC Jonathan Smith $1.9M/year in what seems to be a conference trying to make a market correction by giving bigger performance bonuses.

Even if the PAC 12 Network was on DirecTV that revenue wouldn't have pushed the Bruins much higher.

Saban, while signed through 2023-24, he is 66. Aggie appears to be waiting to pounce at the start of the Post-Saban era.

So I guess Georgia's calmed down a bit. They've owned the second half.

Regarding Frost, I know people like to be first,  but announcing the move while the game he's coaching in is still ongoing? It wasn't like he could flip to Florida State between overtimes,  just sit on it until everyone's in the locker room.

It was Brett McMurphy, who broke the story.  He is a long time reporter, based in Tampa who now basically works for no one.

Brett was let go by ESPN earlier this year and still collects checks from them. He still has his contacts and works them. He hasn't been picked up by any outlet yet, so instead of offset money, he is just still doing what ESPN was paying him to do.

I feel like Nebraska isn't a much better job than UCF.  Am I off-base on that one?

As crazy as it may be, I felt the same way. Obviously Nebraska has better facilities, a larger recruiting pool, and MASSIVE donor money (I would assume, anyway), but up until about a week ago, they were basically the Great Plains version of Tennessee. Still trying to ride their past success because they don't have anything really noteworthy to talk about even somewhat recently.

I said to a buddy of mine that this could very easily be Frost's final ten-win season.

You're not.

But it's home for him.

Before the Steve Pedersen/Bill Callahan era, every Nebraska state HS ran the Flexbone offense, thus they could pick the best  instate players, especially the OL.  They could then grab speed from CA, FL, GA, TX, and even NJ, but that was long ago.

They were getting a Tommy Frazier from Bradenton, FL when there were only three FBS teams there: UF, FSU, Miami. Now there are seven.

There are more FBS teams in Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia and Texas now too. Talent can stay home and 5 * west coast talent can just go to Eugene.

Tennessee has basically the same problems, but they're much closer to talent.

Wisconsin’s success and top-rated D was a function of its schedule.  #fraud

So if things hold up, Clemson, Oklahoma and Georgia are in with the committee to decide between Alabama and Ohio State for spot #4.

Alabama is relying on a Fresno State win for that "data point".  If they lose, they drop from the Top 25 and really hurt Alabama.

The fourth team is going to be a weak link.  Bama’s schedule and a bunch of two-loss teams.  I don’t know how Iowa drubbed OSU but the did and it would be strange to see OSU get in.

FWIW, Iowa won on the road against the team who @Oklahoma and beat TCU.

Just saying.

Sucks for Bama, but it kinda has to be Ohio State, right? They won their conference and their "Second" loss was to another team in the playoffs, right? RIGHT?

I almost feel like we're going to get some absolute absurdity and Bama AND Ohio State are gonna jump one of those three because they're Bama and Ohio State, and then this whole thing really gets exposed as a farce.

This feels like a really good year to advocate for the tenderized deceased clydesdale that is an eight team playoff.

EDIT: Or, Wisconsin is gonna pull this one out of their butts then who the hell knows what's gonna happen because an undefeated B1G champion probably deserves to be there more than any of them. Man, that's gonna cause SUCH a freakin mess if that happens.

Wow...we have a ball game but if Barrett can connect on one of those bombs we won’t.
