Tennessee, you need to be protesting nearly all of this report outside of Chad Morris. Fulmer channeling his inner Barry Alvarez in terms of controlling the program.

http://footballscoop.com/news/update-tennessee-phillip-fulmer-candidates/

Quote

Sources tell FootballScoop Fulmer has met (or spoken with)…or has meetings set with Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables, SMU head coach Chad Morris and former LSU head coach Les Miles.

One source told FootballScoop Fulmer has discussed being very present in the program with a number of candidates; and we also hear he has relayed a similar message to several Tennessee recruits.

Tuesday update> Source tells FootballScoop Fulmer is set to meet with Mel Tucker today in NYC. We understand this will be Tucker’s second talk with the Tennessee search. Kevin Steele remains a candidate and Chad Morris has visited with Fulmer as well (after already having visited with Currie). All of the above is per sources and we continue to hear that while in New York Fulmer is keeping his options open with regards to other potential candidates. We also though continue to hear Fulmer would like to have his man decided by the end of the day. Will update as more is clear.

Oregon has officially hired Co-OC/OL coach Mario Cristobal to be their new HC.  The players and remaining staff really wanted him so they delivered a signed petition to the AD to get him the job.  Appears it worked.

He had a couple good years at FIU which is about as many good years as FIU has had in its short history. I've also always heard he's a great recruiter.

After reading about all the difficulties he had down there in the beginning and then building his team into a conference winner before getting fired after one bad season, I'd say he's in a much better situation to win at Oregon.  He's been around some really good coaches over the years so I think he could out to be a good hire should he get his staff filled out properly.

Pete Garcia, the AD, was itching to get rid of him because he wanted a "name." He'd just gotten rid of Isiah Thomas on the basketball side, and was desperate to hire Butch Davis. They discussed the job after Cristobal's firing, but couldn't work it out then.

He did eventually get him and FIU had a winning season this year so it's working out for everyone now.

Exactly. And Pete Garcia and Davis are friends and have been since Davis coached the Hurricanes and Garcia was the operations coordinator.

Davis was out at UNC, but was a little too hot to touch at the time as the NCAA started looking into Tar Heel athletics.

Oregon's future may hinge on what decision(s) DC Jim Leavitt and the rest of the Taggart's Oregon staff makes as much as Cristobal hire. The smaller number of coaches headed to FSU, the better for the Ducks as continuity still matters.

Herm Edwards at his ASU introduction presser: "We don't huddle anymore in our society. That's the problem with it, to be honest."

Can't wait to welcome in next season's huddled-up, hand-holding edition of Sun Devil football.

Also, this:

Le. :censored:ing. Sigh.

Well, the plan was to keep the coordinators but...

DC Phil Bennett resigned for "personal reasons" on December 12 and will coach the bowl game, but he may join the Texas A&M staff

OC Billy Napier left to be HC at Louisiana-Lafayette.

On the bright side, former NFLer (and part time ESPNer) Antonio Pierce may join the staff. BTW, Pierce is the HC at Long Beach Poly.

Yup. Just as much of a disaster as I expected. This could be Tyrone Willingham at Washington BAD.

In fairness, Ty Willingham at UW kind of made sense at the time. A once-promising coach railroaded out of Notre Dame given a second chance is defensible.

Crazy old man who's been shouting at clouds for a decade at ESPN was always going to be a joke.

Gotta compare to another black coach in the Power 5, huh?  At least give give him Charlie Strong taking over Texas.

Yea, the Keith Gilbertson era which Ty inherited was something special.

Nice of you to forget how both Buddy Tevens and Walt Harris negatively impacted Stanford football after Tyrone.

Nebraska had the Steve Pedersen (AD) and Callahan (HC) plus Miami had Al Golden be as poor a HC as Randy Shannon was.

And just six days ago, you touted Bobby Hurley, a coach Ray Anderson hired.

Pffft! In what universe is this similar to Charlie Strong taking over at Texas? That actually seemed like a good move at the time. This is similar to Willingham because he was trending downward so poorly already before the Washington hire, and was brought on to kind of change the culture of the program, similar to what Edwards was brought in for. Granted, the culture at Washington was an absolute dumpster fire in comparison ASU, but it showed soon enough that Willingham was probably in way over his head. That's what feels similar to me here, yet the timetable for all of that feels like it could be a LOT more dramatic with Edwards because it already seems like he's in WAY over his head.

And what does Bobby Hurley have to do with any of this? Because he was hired by the same AD? That doesn't make the Herm Edwards hire any less confounding.

Gene Chizik was trending downward from Iowa State to Auburn.

Your a$$ would take that success.
