Honestly I'm not expecting the committee to put UCF higher than 9. Auburn will probably still be ahead of them.

I don't care what anyone says. UCF are your 2017-18 national champions.

So Utah won in both '04 (split w/Auburn) and '08 while TCU won in 2010, right?

I think the whole thing about UCF (a) being the only undefeated team and (b) holding a win over the team that handed both championship finalists their only loss is relevant to the argument here.

Amazing how Arizona State has the level of dysfunction they have with their head coaching issue, yet the school down south STILL found a way to top them entirely.

So UCF was willing to play in the system, then claim the system is unfair. Can't have it both ways, should have turned down the Peach Bowl, then done this. Once they played in that game, they accepted the system and are quite hypocritical in refusing to acknowledge the results of that system.

What other choice is there right now if you want to field a D1 team?

It's a ridiculous system, always has been, and still isn't great (though it's better.)  It was absurd back in the 90s when an undefeated big ten champ Penn State didn't get a piece of the championship, IIRC there was a more recent example too (maybe one poll named one team and the other named another - don't recall exactly), and I totally support an undefeated team that won their bowl game calling themselves champion - nobody could beat them, and it's not their fault the system failed them.

They have to do this, and pay their staff for the title, in order to keep recruiting good coaches and players.  If you're a great coach, you're possibly going to look past them and look to a team that has a chance of actually being in the playoff.  At least this way, they can show candidates that they'll be paid whether or not the system fails.

Under my plans, this year would've looked like:

8 UCF (top G5) @ 1 Clemson (ACC champ)

7 Auburn (wild card) @ 2 Oklahoma (Big 12 champ)

6 Alabama (wild card) @ 3 Georgia (SEC Champ)

5 USC (Pac 12 champ) @ 4 Ohio State (Big Ten Champ)

Of course, nothing is perfect and a team like Wisconsin could have a beef with not getting in, but those wild cards would be decided under the best of the remaining teams.

Not to nitpick, but wouldn't Wisconsin trump Auburn by ranking? I think that's part of the problem with attempting to be subjective. Wisconsin went 12-1 and their only loss was by 6 points to Ohio State. Even after beating Miami I don't think people realize how good they are.

Less a case of willing to play than having to play because their only other option is FCS and they already checked that block.

In 1997 USC and Michigan split the national championship. In 1991 Colorado and Georgia Tech did as well.

Just a heads up, if UGA wins the championship, you will never hear the end of it from their fans. They could go another 30+ years without a championship and the fans will still milk the fact they won in 2018.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Bama, but Dawg fans are almost just as annoying since I've been around them my whole life and they always talk a big game but get let down year after year.

Will they really be more insufferable than Warriors fans though? Or Cubs fans? I guess the one good thing is we shouldn't hear "SEC! SEC! SEC!" the whole game. After the game, can't guarantee that.

I think we've had a decade to get ready since we've heard from Texas Exs and Longhorn fans in January 2006 plus they're a much larger alumni/fanbase and had a 30+ year wait themselves.

I'm wondering who will get the bigger boo's in Atlanta on Monday night: Alabama fans or Donald Trump.

Bama, no question.

In 2004, Auburn went 13-0 and was left out of the BCS after being ranked THIRD behind USC and Oklahoma, both of whom were also undefeated.  USC later had to vacate that national title.  Several groups have since unofficially declared Auburn the true champions for that year (especially since Oklahoma was CREAMED by USC, 55-19).

Not even close, but in 1998 (the 1st year of the BCS) Tulane University was the only other Division 1-A team to go undefeated (national champ Tennessee was the other), but didn't sniff the BCS, as they didn't play a ranked team all season.

It is what it is.

I wonder if Ohio State would try to claim a part of the 2012 National Championship? Looking at the polls, it was interesting to see where they could have ended up had they been allowed to play in the B1G Championship Game and won. I think that team was actually as good as the 2014 team that won.  In reality I know they wouldn't, but seeing as teams with more egregious penalties were given wins and records back I would think they could reasonably make that claim. SB Nation posted a list of teams that should make a claim going as far back as 1915. It was pretty interesting reading.

America knows that Aggie Fan is easily the worst potential fanbase, but even with Jimbo, it's just potential as long as

Kim Jong Saban is on a sideline.

Aggie message boards and Aggie twitter are much more delusional than any NCAA fanbase.

The fact they gave Sumlin $10 million to take a hike and just paid a DC $1.8 mil a year shows they're not playing with a full deck. And don't even mention that Texas might have a better season next year. I'm glad I live west of them.

Aggie fan was the worst WAY before they joined the SEC.

Apologies to those on the CCSLC, Penn State isn't really a cult when compared to Texas A&M. Search "Aggie Bonfire" and "Aggie Muster"
