48erhater
I grew up a Utah fan. I supported them a couple years after joining the Pac 12. But during that time I got sick of the fans. All they would do is bash BYU no matter what. Even though they haven't won a championship in the two most popular sports (football and mens basketball). Any newspaper article comment section is just filled with hate from the Utah fans. Even though I'm not Mormon I felt the need to change my fanhood to BYU. Anybody else feel a reason to switch

Red Wolf
Every fanbase sucks. If you became a BYU fan you'd just hear about how much Utah sucks. It's what rivals do.

It's true ... BYU fans are the WORST. Well, not as bad as Boise State fans. But, Utah has the record to back up the talk. BYU lost that years ago. generalshepherd141
I'd donate my house before having to become a Falcons fan. Sounds like you weren't really a Utah fan in the first place if you were bothered by fans trash-talking BYU.
HedleyLamarr
I guess I did this about 20 years ago. I used to pull for the Tampa Bay Lightning because they were the parent club of the Atlanta Knights. The Knights went away around 1996/97, right around the same time the NHL announced that Atlanta was getting an NHL team. But once the Knights went away, I pulled for the Red Wings for a couple years and used the Predators games (we got a fair amount of games in Nashville's inaugural season shown here) to get prepped for the Thrashers the following season. (Going from Red Wings to Thrashers had me excited about Atlanta getting Detroit's assistant GM to be their GM). So I didn't go directly from the Lightning to the Thrashers, but I did become a fan of the team that was in Tampa's division.
Sport
If my kid or a close friend played for a rival team I'd switch, but that's probably not going to happen so I'd rather stick it out with the crappy teams I support. If they lose nobody can accuse me of being a fair weather fan. If they win it'll mean more to me and my conscience will he clean knowing I was there for the bad times. Win win. DTConcepts
Only way I'll cheer for the Pens/Rangers is if I've got a gun to my head. Even if my little brother plays for either of them, I won't cheer for the team. Just for him. "You ain't gonna learn what you don't wanna know..." It sounds like you were a casual Bolts fan, plus your city got their own team. I doubt anyone would fault you. tBBP
I grew up a Buccaneers fan, well before Tony Dungy got there. I don't consider myself an über-fan these days (and until they do something about those alarm-clock monstrosities I won't, because...no), but as I look in what used to be the NFC Central, the only other team I can see myself having been an über-fan of was the Green Bay Packers. (Again, this was early '90s.) Probably because of my then-stepdad being a huge fan of them. On the AFC side I've done it twice. (Sort of.) From their inception (and since they are also a Florida squad) I was a huge Jaguars fan, too. But somewhere around '09 for whatever reason it wore off, which coincided with my sojourn in Indiana, during which time I gravitated toward the Colts, which lasted well into my move to Tennessee. Fast forward to a year ago and I found myself fully onboard the Titans train, as I am presently. You will note all three are division rivals. Who's to say what'll happen if i end up moving again.... Coincidentally, my wife's parents happen to reside down outside Houston, so.... *Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. || dribbble || Behance ||
smzimbabwe
Should also mention, my brother was heavily recruited by WSU. Had he gone there, I would have rooted against him.

If you do jump ship, go ahead... I just don't want to hear from you unless you're going to be bowing down to Washington. To me, loyalty is very important. I've been a Seahawk fan, a Mariner fan, a Huskies fan for most of my life. It have to take a miracle or a franchise move to get me to jump ship. FiddySicks
I've kinda done this with MLS, actually. More than once. I was a huge San Jose Earthquakes fan as a kid, but when they moved to Houston I kinda gravitated towards the Galaxy (Donovan before I completely soured on him, and the first ever game I went to was David Beckham's debut with the Galaxy) and for a time was a decent Galaxy fan. I never got back on the "New" Quakes train, and I never will for several reasons. I was pretty against the Sounders for awhile there, too, but now consider them my MLS team due to working with them pretty closely (I printed their jerseys) during the 2014 season. That'll all die a quick death though the minute Sac Republic gets promoted to MLS.
