Didn't get to watch the game because our neighbors apartment, their sprinkler broke and it tripped the fire alarm, and everyone had to evacuate the apartment complex

but i heard it on the radio and it was crazy!

(no this legit happened not to mention the twin cities are in the middle of a blizzard as of 8:15 CT on 1/14/18, so :P)

i think i get too excited over sports.

No you don't, not at all.

Now, had you jumped two feet in the air, that'd be a different story...

One of my absolute favorite things to do after games like that is go to each team's SB Nation blogs and find the point of the comments section where "the play" happened. I'm absolutely looking forward to doing that for both the Saints and Vikings on this one.

One foot in the air or two feet, it only counts as over-excitement if he comes down with it on both feet maintaining possession of his excitement with no bobbling at any point. At least I think that's the rule, they're giving it a replay review so who knows. :P

Okay, so it looks like the annual "Super Bowl Regional Cuisine" menu is down to this:

NFC:

Philly Cheese Steaks

OR

Juicy Lucy burgers (no way I'm doing lutefisk or some type of "Hot Dish")

AND

AFC:

New England Clam Chowder (yet again)

OR

one of two types of weird local Jacksonville sandwiches, a LUBI (loose cooked ground sirloin, cheese and stuff inside a hoagie roll and steamed) or a CAMEL RIDER (cold cuts, lettuce and tomato and dressing inside a big pita). Anybody have any experience with either of those?...  I may just settle for some shrimp and grits for JAX.

It is what it is.

I never thought to do this before.  You're right, this is great!  Haven't gotten to the Saints yet but the Vikings fans going from swearing off their team (for good reason) to joy is pretty awesome.

I'm glad you enjoy it. Some of the Fresh Prince style "What had happened was" explanations from fans who've sworn off their teams are probably the reason I'm still so into sports. They're nothing short of art.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the point-after necessary because it was theoretically possible for the Saints to still win? I'm aware the score was 29-24, but what if the Saints returned a kick or fumble for 2 and there was also a penalty against the Vikings to be enforced on the kickoff? Would there be an untimed kickoff, or would the game end on the 2 point conversion?

I think that's why the point after had to be played, and of course why the Vikings knelt (with the Saints punter playing defensive line, I might add...)

I think that's why the Vikings player spiked the ball or whatever, during the extra point attempt, just in case something terribly disastrous occured that would give the Saints a chance. I wasn't sure what the rule was, until the officials kicked the media people off the field.

But I guess if the game's already in the bag, there's that play you can make to not have to kick, during the attempt.

I would imagine they would enforce the penalty on the extra point play as opposed to having a kickoff just for the sake of enforcing the penalty.

In the regular season points scored and points allowed factor into the playoff tiebreakers for the division, so I guess in that regard it's somewhat necessary.  Having that rule carry over to the playoffs could just be for consistency.

I can't imagine it's a situation that's come up very often that would make them revisit it.  On game ending TD's in OT they wouldn't force them to kick the extra point.

Call the games fairly, stop gifting wins to the same two teams all the time, and people will start tuning in again.

Agreed. I'm getting sick of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings in the running for the Super Bowl every single year...

It looked like he had to hold up to avoid pass interference and it threw off his timing a bit.  Maybe he was coming in to strong to hold up and just bearhug Diggs like he should have and, maybe, if he had, Diggs' momentum would have carried him out of bounds anyways.

Just wanted to share this little bit of wild luck...while watching Saints - Vikings, I was texting with my BASS co-hosts @Ice_Cap and @Still MIGHTY. After the Saints kicked the go ahead FG, my esteemed colleagues talked about the Vikings going Vikings and losing the game at which point I said "call me crazy, boys, but I still have a good feeling about these Vikings. This thing ain't over yet." Predictably, they both called me crazy - and then the "Minneapolis Miracle" happened. The God's honest truth is my gut instinct was that the Vikings were still going to win the game.

So happy the eagles get to beat the Vikings. I like and admire Drew Brees too much to root for him to suffer a snapped femur. I couldn’t care less if any of the Vikings suffer compound fractures or CTE during the game. I kinda hope Keenum snaps something so Sam Bradford has to play and then he gets his head hit so much that his brain looks like a pile of black mush and he can’t remember his children’s names or his own phone number. I kinda hope it’s so bad that he just randomly twitches too.
