Not trying to pick on you but Joe Buck just said something along these lines during the broadcast and it brings up something that really bugs the hell out of me.

This tendency to count Super Bowl victories only when talking NFL championship totals by team is a tendency that needs to stop. NFL championships won prior to 1966 are still championships. It's not those teams faults that the NFL Championship was called something different. So, with all due respect to New England and Pittsburgh (Christ what an awful sentence), their six or soon-to-be six Super Bowls still don't get them even close to Green Bay's NFL-leading 13 championships. Counting championships by Super Bowl era-only would be like counting World Series wins since 1961, or Stanley Cup's since 1967 (or NBA championships since...ABA/NBA merger). It's something that literally no one in those sports does, and we shouldn't do it in the NFL either.

AFL championships should count too! Back-2-Back AFL champs 60'-61' baby!! #OilerUp #57YearsAgoIsBetterThanNeverAtAll #Legit

It's lovely to see people get so up in arms about games that decide which bunch of guys will be giving each other head injuries and early-onset dementia.

Everything anyone loves is pointless.

I'm not going to watch the Super Bowl unless I see that the Eagles are up by 21...with 2 minutes to go. Otherwise eff this league.

Last time the Eagles went to the Super Bowl, they faced New England.

Along the way they, as the NFC #1 seed, won home games against the Vikings and Falcons.

So this is a little familiar.

They also beat the Vikings in the playoffs on their way to Super Bowl XV.

I find it awful funny that in the year of pissing off all patriotic fans, it comes down to the Patriots and Eagles. New England vs. Philadelphia. You cannot get anymore patriotic than that.

Just saying... Funny how all these coincidences just keep popping up every year in the NFL.

Damn. Was hoping at the very least Minne got to play the Super Bowl at home.

But Naturally they had to do what they do best. I really feel sorry for Vikings fans. Cubs & Red Sox at least had their "curses" their fans could pin the blame on, Minnesota has nothing.

Gotta give Jacksonville all the credit in the world though. They played tough as nails and even Bortles had himself a game. That QB situation for Jacksonville just got a whole lot more awkward.

As for Eagles - Patriots Super Bowl, like Jacksonville's win over Pittsburgh, Philly just proved that are no pushover either. Foles is as legit as Bortles or Wentz.

Red Sox: 8    Celtics: 17    Bruins: 6    Patriots: 5

Looks like the Iggles have won the “Who Gets to Lose Against the Pats in SB LII” Bowl!

In all seriousness though, to continue the Empire metaphor, this is like Empire Strikes Back, unprepared Luke trying to beat Darth Vader. Only Luke put up more of a fight than Foles and the Eagles will.

Theory: the entire city of Philadelphia has been stuck in an extreme Groundhog Day time warp and its actually been February 6th, 2005 this whole time and February 4th, 2018 is just the clock hitting 6:00 AM again.

Meanwhile, the city of New York is taking the biggest L I've seen in a while:

Yeah I can't see national ratings not taking a really serious hit this year.

Ive been saying it for weeks, though. This was easily the most dog :censored: NFL season I've ever seen (and there have been some truly AWFUL ones this decade, so that's saying something). It's only fitting that the worst NFL season I've ever seen has the worst matchup possible.

Enjoy getting curbstomped by the Pats again, Eagles. I sure as hell won't be witnessing it.

It could be argued that there's no worse team in North American pro sports to follow than the Vikings.  For the most part, they've been a competitive franchise.  At one point (this was maybe five years ago, so I don't know that it still holds true), they'd been to the playoffs more than any team, besides Dallas, since the merger.  But they always let you down.  Always.

There are probably two categories of horrible teams to follow: the moribund franchises (like the Browns) or the team that continuously just falls short.  Among the latter, is there any team that's more painful to follow than the Vikings?  Particularly if you are old enough to remember back a long way (I remember to the 1980s and don't remember any of the four Super Bowl losses)?  Don't give me the Sharks; the Vikings have been pulling the rug out from under us since before the Sharks existed. Deep down inside, I know the Vikings will never win a Super Bowl.  The magic of being a Vikings fan is in the "how" they'll let you down.  Today it was by not showing up, which was, frankly, less painful than some of the other meltdowns.

So would I rather have the Vikings or the Browns?  It's hard to say.  I kinda have the Browns in the NBA...the Wolves are the current playoff drought streak-holders.  (OK, they are decent now, but they have not been to the playoffs since 2004 and have spent most of their existence pretty hapless).  I guess I'll say that having a team that gives you reason to watch late in the season is better than having a team that just goes out and plays games and hopefully wins a few.  But being a Vikings fan is still a struggle.

Truth be told, all I really wanted out of this year was for there not to be thousands of insufferable Packer fans descending on the Twin Cities this year.  From that end, it was a success.  The Vikings making the playoffs, much less the Super Bowl, was kind of off my radar.  So it was ultimately a positive year.  But today's just a reminder that it's a virtual certainty that the Vikings will, until the end of time, only be able to brag about how ever many division titles they've won (not that anyone cares).

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."
