2017 NFL Season: Then there were Two

DAMN. I expected there to be more teams protesting today, but I didn't quite expect it to be damn near the ENTIRE league. Good on you, NFL. Good on you.

I spoiler'd this because of the political conection, so if you don't wanna see it, don't open it. BUT, I think it's a pretty apt statement.

We're going to be smart about the political discussion.

EDIT-

To completely ignore the anthem protests would be a mistake. It's a huge part of the story of the NFL this week. That being said? I've deleted or edited some of the more provocative statements.

No one will be disciplined, but politically-themed comments will be kept on a tight leash going forward.

I think that's the right way to go. I understand the political ban, but the events of the weekend almost demand some political discussion. Sports and politics are all of a sudden intertwined, rarely more so.

For Trump, I think it's a "smart" move. Nobody actually expects him to be able to stop the protests, but he gets to make a lot of noise and put forth the illusion of doing something. It will probably excite the people that were already behind him.

That's my issue with some owners and even some players getting behind the protests now. Because Trump ran his mouth. I'm glad they are motivated now to take a stand, but Kaepernick's original point is being swept away and that's annoying. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't great to see though.

Hope that wasn't too far guys. Football!!!

I was thinking today that this could actually put a damper on the protests going forward, but not in Trump's intended way. It's all of a sudden a huge pissing match between the players and the President of the United States (weird), but the actual reasons that players started kneeling are nowhere to be found in the discussion now. I don't see players wanting to end the protest as long as Trump is in office, so it may end up being the standard that teams stay in the locker room or everyone kneels all the time and nobody really pays attention at all.

That's fine :)

I'm not entirely sure if it's a smart move for Trump. On one hand @Cosmic is right. He can't actually stop it, but he can talk about it and rile his base up.

On the other hand @HedleyLamarr is right when he says this was an issue slowly fading away until Trump opened his mouth.

It went from Kaep and a few assorted players here and there getting less and less media coverage to a spectacle with entire teams protesting and every anthem being shown.

Regardless? It made kneeling an anti-Trump statement and provided huge coverage for the act. I can't see how that's going to go over well for a man who seems to have a large but fragile ego.

In any event? I have to think there's a more productive use of the President of the United States' time than getting into a pissing match with the NFL.

I dunno, call me crazy, but I'm tired of us white people telling minorities when and where they're allowed to voice their opinions. To me, that's about as un-American as it gets.

The Case Keenum-led Vikings had quite a turnaround this week.  Keenum himself looked like a Pro Bowl QB.

This Texans/Patriots game has been great. Watson is a heck of a QB. Hoping these two teams meet again in the playoffs because this game has been fun.

The Lions / Falcons ending was crazy.  Sadly that 10-second runoff makes sense.

The definition of insanity: The Steelers playing down to bad teams over and over again and expecting a different result.

This is getting really old. Sadly, I don't think I'll ever get to see Antonio Brown raise a Super Bowl trophy if this keeps happening.
