DS729
I know hindsight is 20/20 but I'm not surprised Barcelona went out to Roma... Roma played very well in the first leg, they just got unlucky with the two own goals and a good penalty appeal was denied. They've also played well and held their own against bigger foes earlier in the competition (they beat Chelsea 3-0 and drew away 3-3 in the group stage) I didn't think they could come back down from 3-0 but Barcelona has had this coming all season, their luck was bound to run out at some point. Now, fingers crossed for a Liverpool-Roma semifinal. What a fun matchup that would be.

officeglenn
The week of crazy comebacks in European football continues. FC Salzburg was down 4-2 to Lazio in their EL quarterfinal, but won today's 2nd leg 4-1 to win the tie 6-5 on aggregate. And then Marseille, down 1-0 to RB Leipzig after the 1st leg, fell further behind in the 2nd minute of the 2nd leg, but roared back to win the game 5-2 and the tie 5-3 on aggregate. Looked like Arsenal might suffer the same fate -- leading 4-1 after the first leg but losing 2-0 in the second leg -- but Welbz and Ramsey tallied in the final 15 minutes to salvage a 2-2 tie and win 6-3 on aggregate vs. CSKA Moscow. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAST FOUR: - AS Roma - Bayern Munich - Liverpool - Real Madrid EUROPA LEAGUE LAST FOUR: - Arsenal - Atletico Madrid - FC Salzburg - Olympique Marseille Semifinal draws for both leagues goes on Friday. Part of me wants Liverpool to play Real Madrid because I want to see how the BBC does vs Van Dijk and Co. Bayern might be a tougher test for Liverpool though. They've been coasting in the Bundesliga for so long who knows where their heads will be. Roma will probably go out at the semi-finals if they get Bayern but could win vs either of the other two. Crabcake
If Liverpool don’t win it all, I’ll take not-Uefadrid any day. Heres my prediction for the semifinal draws: UCL: Liverpool v. Real Madrid Roma v. Bayern UEL: Arsenal v. Atlético Madrid Marseille v. Salzburg If Liverpool get Real I sincerely hope Ramos is suspended because their defense looked really poor without him against Juve. Knowing UEFA though he’ll be hit with a €5 fine. Berlin Wall
I love it that either Liverpool or Roma will make it to the final. I'll definitely root for them. MJWalker45
http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43750266 Infantino wants to make Qatar 2022 a 48 team World Cup. I think he knows they'll make more money in North America and spreading the World Cup across the Middle East will help make that happen if he can put matches in Morocco. Crabcake
Arsene Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season. Over to you @officeglenn!
officeglenn
Wow. Wow wow wow. I'm just kind of stunned. I mean, I knew this day was coming, but it still feels like it came out of left field. I always believed Wenger deserved to leave on his own terms, and at least on the surface, that appears to be what he is doing. Obviously the club has known about this for some time and probably has some succession plan in place, has leading candidates in mind for the job. But for now, I feel like we just need to celebrate what Wenger has done for and means to this club. There's a whole generation of Arsenal supporters -- Arsenal players, even -- who don't know anything else but Arsene Wenger as manager, myself included. He revolutionized the game in England, and it seemed he had a direct pipeline to the best French players, and even the rest of the continent. Around the time of the Invincibles, he was so far ahead of every other manager in the Premiership that didn't know whether to cry or wind their watches. But eventually everyone else caught up, and I believe that left Wenger flummoxed. The influx of super-wealthy owners coincided with lean years at Arsenal thanks to the construction of Emirates Stadium. But he still somehow managed to make it work, at least up until the past couple of years. I wonder about the timing of the announcement. Hopefully it motivates fans to come out and get behind him and the team down the homestretch here, and gives the players the motivation to push on in the league and in the Europa League. But I also worry what this means for some of the players. Many have expressed that playing under Wenger was a huge motivation for joining Arsenal, Ozil and Aubameyang specifically. Will they stick around? Will other players want to join? I suppose that all depends on who they have lined up as a replacement. I don't believe for one second that Wenger will ride off into the sunset. I fully expect him to take up another job in football after he leaves. He has lived and breathed and bled this game for so long, and sacrificed so much for it. Whatever he does next, I only wish him the very best. For all the stick he gets, Wenger deserves a tremendous amount of credit and respect for what he did at Arsenal and for what he did for English football in general. As an American who didn't start to get into the Premier League until 2014 (and there was a learning curve as well), Wenger has been a bit of a meme for most of my time as a football fan. But I pick up on football history enough to understand that he was one of the greats.
