While it's going to be a bit surreal to not see the US (or the Dutch, for that matter) in the World Cup, you can't help but be happy for Panama.

Also, FIFA need to give CONMEBOL at least 2 more bid slots. It's ridiculous that Chile or Ecuador can't qualify for the World Cup, yet freaking Saudi Arabia can.

If chilean players actually cared for the national team and not for money after the Copa America title they would go trough.

And even with that, if they didn't accuse Bolivia of playing with a irregular player and get their points from that game they would also get trough, because Peru would have 3 less points.

Ecuador was just horrible, they did not deserve to play the World Cup.

The academy setup in the United States is already shifting away from the pay-to-play, rich-kids-coached-by-inept-dads model. Whether it's been enough of a shift, we can't say.

Where the US academies actually that way (pay-to-play)? If that is the case, that may be the biggest problem for creating football culture in the US. It should be a rich kids sport, not at all.

While Ecuador might be “horrible” and Chile may have taken advantage of a rule, it still could’ve easily been Argentina, Colombia, or Peru in that spot. A true quality side was going to be left out regardless due to the qualification structure.

I just read this column about the state of pay-to-play academies in the US. There are still many, too many! But it's getting better, and that will have results on the senior team.

I've been to Chile recently and everyone out there said after the back to back Copa America's the players wanted a lot of money to play for the national team and showed no passion.

That said, when they acused Bolivia of using the irregular player they got 2 points and Peru got 3 points from their loss. If it wasn't for that Chile would finish in 5th place above Peru.

Arena finally fell on his sword, but it was all but ordained by the football gods. And Malkey Mackay has taken over Scotland. I don't see that ending any better than the last few jobs he's had if he hasn't made any self improvements himself.

LOL united. Playing against the Top 6’s worst defense with Lukaku, Martial, and Co. and Mourinho plays for a scoreless draw. Cowards.

Was it as bad as Chelsea’s embarrassment losing to Crystal freaking Palace?

That would be a no. However, I think that Chelsea has made it an annual tradition to lose one match to Crystal Palace.

That 2nd Tim Weah goal was outstanding. You'll be hard pressed to find a better goal in the u17 World Cup.

The US has a lot of talent coming up. Near Pulisic quality. We just need a proper system to fully utilize their talents.

Cowboys - Lakers - LAFC - USMNT - LA Rams - LA Kings - NUFC

Weah is in the PSG academy. Josh Sargent has an agreement to go to Werder Bremen. Andrew Carleton is staying in MLS (for now) but already broke through to Atlanta's first team. As has been said by people smarter than me, a lot of the problems everyone got upset about last week re US Soccer and men's development are already in the process of being addressed, there's just a long tailing effect. The kids are alright!

Biggest thing these kids need is playing time. No reason to go to Europe or MLS if they'll be sitting out.

how is dejan lovren a starting cb for a top 6 PL club

Hey now, your team could've just lost 5-2 at home to Arsenal.

Koeman is not going to make it another week. He never actually bought a striker to replace Lukaku, and it has been showing. Rooney has (surprisingly) actually been playing at a high level this season, but it's all in vain because most everyone else is nowhere near his level. When Oumar Niasse is your best option at striker, something has gone horribly wrong.

Italy is out of the World Cup!

If you thought US reaction was bad, I'm thinking this could reach Armageddon level insanity over there.

I'm also slightly happy to see them out due to refusal of their leadership to move into the 21st century.
