Phoenix Suns New Uniforms

Colorsism

Recommended Posts

This looks like the designer was fresh off of doing the Cavaliers' uniforms and had a few minutes to kill before quitting time. The colors are wonderful. The overall uniform is uninspiring,

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

They're no shooting star uniforms, but these are the best set they've had since. Cohesive colors on all three sets. A solid number font. Beveling and the butt stripe are the main flaws. It's a C+ from me. At least they have the proper color balance for home and away now even if they lack the charisma of the 90's uniforms or the Old West look.

i have unquantifiable corpses on my conscience

I think I figured out what's bugging me about this suns set (and what bugged me about the last set, too). The wordmark is orange with a purple outline on the home jersey, and that just looks wrong for the Suns. They should always be a purple dominant team with orange as an accent, and the past two sets have swapped that (or, in the case of the last set, emphasized orange swapped purple out for black for some reason that made no sense).

Except they've worn an orange-dominant wordmark on their home jerseys for most of their history. The '90s and 2000s sets were the outliers, not the norm.

Huh, I didn't realize that, actually.

It still bugs me, though. The older sets were really nice (And I kind of wish the suns had gotten back to their roots now that they've ditched the sunburst), but it was also balanced out with a thinner script, a (seemingly) brighter purple, and the numbers and word mark matched at least. This set just doesn't look quite right to me with all of those elements kind of overlooked. They sort of took the worst elements of their previous sets and combined them.

The last purple roads were one of the best unis in basketball. I can't believe they took everything that was good about the last jerseys and kept all the bad (the wordmark, the mismatching colors). The flames on the shorts are hideous. Why are their pointed stripes? Where's their buzz words for that? They also said that the arching wordmark replicates a rising sun. I think that's a huge stretch. Why are the numbers so huge? and why do the colors of the numbers offset with the wordmark? What's the symbolism with the horrible beveling on the wordmark other than keeping consistency with the horrible beveling on the logos? While the future is bright for the young Suns on the team, the jerseys mess up an already messy team identity.

It's like they had 5 mins to mock up something and ran out of time to make a decent jersey. Arizona is most likely home to the worst dressed sports team in the nation. And that's not a hyberbole (Cardinals are a mess. Suns are a mess. and D-Backs are a mess)

The shorts are gorgeous with the way the sunburst is executed and the use of white, and I really like how the colors look. Unfortunately, the jersey is that very same generic design from the leaked pic, which we had already deemed a massive L, stripping it from the personality that the previous set had with the sunburst. Also, the numbers on the front are huge.

What happened to the pitchforks you guys were waving around when the (now) old uniforms were first unveiled?

I left my pitchfork in the garage that day. I have no idea why people actually thought the new/old ones were worse then the Nash set with the grey...

I think the perfect Suns set would be a combination of the last two sets. I liked the sun streaks in the wordmark and below it on the last set (not the beveling of the new set) but I like the striping and the lack of black in this set. Since I prioritize the use of orange & purple over the design elements, I'd say this is a slight upgrade.

It seems like Nike has improved every team it's unveiled so far, or perhaps a couple lateral moves with their minor changes, but I haven't seen anything that made me ask why they hadn't just left it alone...

Actually for me its the other way. They made everything worse or stayed the same. no definate upgrade for me.

They ruined the back of every single jersey in the league. That's pretty special.

I may have exaggerated a bit. I think the Suns, Clippers, and Pacers are all definite upgrades. Nuggets not so much.

I respectfully disagree.
