Sure, he uses social media to pat himself on the back too much, but this is likely the season he plays all 82 at 37 minutes/night. That dude is seriously underpaid. LeBron hasn't been proportionately as dominant, but he's been the best among an across-the-board better group of players than were in the 80s or 90s. If anything, I think Jordan being the best player in the league if he played now is less likely than LeBron being way ahead of the rest of the league in the 90's. The way every team decides to defend LeBron was illegal when Jordan played. Once you get past the hand checking and increased physicality (I mean, he's 6'8", 250) your choices are to play him one-on-one or double team him—an actual double team and not just having everyone help off of their man—and neither seems like a particularly good option. If part of the discussion is how much better Jordan was than everyone else at that time, then it's important to consider that same for everyone. OK, Wilt played center, so if you want to talk about best pure player (meaning all skills), then sure, you're talking Jordan, Lebron, maybe a few other guys. I have to say, my vote goes to Lebron. I never saw Jordan live, but saw all of his Finals games, and am old enough to remember his entire career. The eras were different, and he had better coaching, GMs, and players around him. Not to take anything away, but I have seen Lebron live, and I think he does things that Jordan didn't do, just maybe doesn't have the same "killer instinct", and is doing it all by himself. Watching the Miami team live, it seemed like it was literally Lebron and 4 jobbers out there. Outside of that six season span he delivered his team to another threepeat as their best player and put up 37 points a game in 1986-87. Pippen may have been more versatile in terms of positions he could guard but Jordan's defense was higher quality. That's an absurd opinion in light of all evidence. And if you're counting rings, James had no chance in 07, blew 11, watched his teammates quit in 14, watched his teammates go down one by one in 15, and was just outgunned in 17. Jordan never played with a team as overmatched as James has been in some of his Finals losses.
