FinsUp1214
What a ride it’s been for the Jazz. Dead in the water in January, clinched a playoff berth today. No matter how this season ends, I’m just thrilled they made it at all. There was also a really cool moment after the game. Ricky Rubio and Quin Snyder embraced and Snyder said something like “you made it” or “we made it”. It’s Ricky’s first trip to the playoffs in his career. So that was really cool. A reasonable fan who's legitimately happy with something they should be happy with? ARE YOU CRAZY? This is the NBA thread! Call someone out, anyone! Talk about how overrated LeBron is! Complain about the Warriors! Drag another team into a debate that has nothing to do with them! For the love of God, just don't do what you're doing now! I love that Rubio is going to the playoffs while the Timberwolves are probably going to miss the playoffs. Especially after Thibs was obsessed with trading him. ozzyman314
Let's not pretend Sam Hinkie had a plan beyond tanking like no team has tanked before. tigerslionspistonshabs
Well, I was 14/16 as far as teams in/out of the playoffs. I had Minnesota and Denver both in, New Orleans out; and Charlotte in over Indiana.

It's frustrating being a fan of the T-wolves. It's a pretty moribund franchise, but when they do get good, the West gets unbelievably stacked. When you look at the West, with the two LA teams playing better, I don't think there's room for them next year. Maybe they need to trade everything for all the assets they can and hire whatshisname from Philly. If the Wolves lose tomorrow, that playoff drought is probably going to end with players that haven't even been born yet. #Minnesotasports Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse." The Celtics were lucky enough to outsource their tank to Brooklyn. Not every team is going to get that lucky. I think every successful NBA team-build is some combination of smarts and luck and oftentimes we can't even tell which is which. Was the Warriors' draft-day steal of Draymond brilliant or dumb luck? What about the Celtics trading a bag of spare parts for Isaiah Thomas (the Ainge move that is way too overlooked, imho)? If anything the Rockets are probably the best shining example of a non-tanking process, and they're probably the non-GSW favorite this year. Do they get points off because they won the Harden trade and they were unable to unlock Lowry's potential the way the Raps did? These are just hypothetical questions that I'm not sure we can possibly answer, but they're interesting to think about in this era of armchair GM-ing. Bryan Colangelo is the one that actually put the pieces of "The Process" together. This, of course, ignores the shrewd trades that Hinkie made to set the Sixers up with more assets - especially his total fleecing of the Kings. It also ignores how Colangelo's biggest move so far (trading up to draft Fultz) has been a disaster. And let's not forget that Hinkie was Morey's right-hand man when Houston was rebuilding without tanking. It's not like tanking is all he can do. Tanking was just the direction that the Sixers needed to go in with the roster they had at the time. The Bynum trade was a bust, and a team built around Jrue Holiday, Thaddeus Young and Evan Turner was never going to win anything. BBTV
One of Hinkie’s guiding principles was that even top draft picks don’t always pan out, so you need as many of them as possible to give yourself a shot at landing two superstars. Noel didn’t pan out, Okefor they only took because they kinda had to since he was the highest ranked left, Embiid couldn’t play for two years, which helped them a lot, MCW was good enough to get them some draft assets, etc. its silly to think that Hinke wouldn’t have taken Simmons with that pick. Also, he was the guy that dumped salary to get the rights to Dario Saric, who couldn’t even plan on the US for years, but is now a major contributor. It was a LOT more than just losing. It was losing while acquiring assets and maintaining compliance with the cap. It was an understanding that drafting one good player would only make you mediocre, and that two superstars were needed to be a true championship contender. It was the belief that if you don’t see one of those superstars out there, don’t waste time and just use that drafted player to eventually acquire more picks. He wont get another job because the league won’t allow it, and most teams wouldn’t be able to sell indefinite losing to their fans, but he’s single handedly responsible for the team going from 10 to >50 wins, and while only a few finals runs will prove the process successful, it’s trending the right way. tigerslionspistonshabs
So, assuming the Sixers have the 3rd seed, they get past the Bucks in first round, beaten up Celtics in the 2nd round (assuming the C's can beat the Heat or Wizards) and then face the winner of Cleveland-Toronto in the ECF. Both of whom they may be able to take in 7 games.
who do you think
The Celtics aren't going to be a free out for the Sixers or anyone else not named Cleveland. This year's Celtics have been at their best when the pressure is off and nobody is looking at them. They struggle when expectations are placed on them (as one would expect with a roster that's half rookies and 2nd year players). Kyrie's injury means everyone has written them off. No expectations. No matter who the Celtics face, all eyes will be on the other team. That works in their favor. And honestly even without Irving this year's Celtics aren't far off from last year's Celtics, who overachieved and probably would've gone down to Washington if the Wizards had any poise whatsoever. That's giving Hinkie all possible credit, and I'll grant it. I'll just add that what he sucked at is player development, and it's not fair that Okafor and Noel were thrown away like garbage. Instead of being able to learn how to play, they were forced to sit and their careers may never recover. One other reason that Hinkie may never work in the NBA again is because his resignation letter was bat :censored: crazy. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
