2017 MLB Postseason Thread

It's funny how a city's sports fans have different characters despite a lot of overlap in the people involved. Like, everyone hates Patriots and Red Sox fans, but Bruins fans are mostly okay, or how the suffocating d'aww-shucksiness of the Cardinals doesn't really carry over to the Blues.

As a Dodgers fan, my only question is which team they’re losing to in the NLCS, and if it will be in 4-7 games.

Yes, impressive win over Arizona, but I still don’t trust them. Kershaw will implode, offense will die, something will cause them to lose another NLCS.

On the AL side, hoping Houston gets the pennant.

Seems like it has to do with how successful the team has been. Patriots have been the most dominant team in the NFL for the past decade 1/2, Red Sox have won 3 World Series since 2004, but Bruins & Celtics each have only won 1 championship in the past 10-15 years. Likewise the Cardinals have won a few championships while the Blues have none.

Red Sox: 8    Celtics: 17    Bruins: 6    Patriots: 5

I see something like that in the diehard LA and Oakland fans I know (Utah’s got a fair amount of school/work transplants). Arrogant as can be about the Lakers and Warriors, but much less so about the Dodgers or A’s.

I cant say I know the same for Yankees fans though, as the only ones I know are local-born bandwagoners who’ve never heard of Whitey Ford and that’s a class of its own.

Dusty Baker is claiming that Chicago is poisoning the Nationals with toxic airborne mold and that's why Strasburg can't start. I feel like this is the kind of story the Cubs used to be on the other side of.

Can’t blame them, that isn’t the Dodgers pool.

Ehh...  You own the team, you can own the pool.

So now Strasburg is starting today.  What a bizarre story this has been. This is probably as much as I've ever felt that public/media/social media reaction has ever impacted a team's approach to a high-profile game.  Whatever pressure he'd have felt as the starter anyway has to be magnified given the perception that he might not have wanted to the ball.

Five minutes ago me to a friend who's a big Cubs fan:

Cubs are gonna win this game. You can take that to the bank."

Lol of course Didi freakin Gregorious of all people is hitting like Babe Ruth tonight. He was the starting second baseman for the D Backs when I had season tickets in 2013, and if he hit more than a handful of balls out of the infield that whole year it'd be a total shock to me.

Playoff baseball. What can you even say?
