IMO we should deal Machado since he's gonna command a contract easily over $300m and we can't pay him what with the albatross of Davis's contract. It'd be really tough to deal with though. It'll be interesting to see whether they try to make a pitching acquisition. I don't think they have entries do more than they did this year. SFGiants58 Posted October 4, 2017 Share Posted October 4, 2017 We've got a lot of signs that the Jeter-fronted (even though his stake is incredibly small) will try to rebuild the indebted team, which may involve trading Giancarlo Stanton (who wants out if there's a rebuild). While the sources aren't the best, it does paint an iffy picture of the new Marlins ownership group. All I'm thinking about this is two things. The first is that Jorge Mas would not try to rebuild the team, and instead balloon payroll to get a better rotation to go with that amazing outfield. The second is that I doubt the Marlins would be in a "rebuilding" position if Jose Fernandez was alive. Though somewhat limited defensively, Garcia enjoyed a breakout year, hitting .330, second only to Jose Altuve in the AL. While top prospect Eloy Jimenez projects as the team's future right fielder, unless GM Rick Hahn gets absolutely blown away by an offer, I would keep Garcia around to see if he can sustain his production at the plate going forward. If Avi can be a valuable everyday player, that would be a huge shot in the arm for this rebuild and could speed up the team's timetable for contention. As far as Abreu goes, I'd love to see him on the next championship White Sox team. He may be approaching the wrong side of 30, but the Sox will need veteran leadership and dependability on what should be a very hungry young team in a few years. Of course, Hahn should entertain all offers, but Abreu might be the kind of player who's more valuable to the White Sox than any return he could bring back. Sport Posted October 4, 2017 Share Posted October 4, 2017 I like the Reds lineup right now as constructed, though they'll probably lose Zack Cozart to free agency and that's a big bummer, but I still think they'll put up enough runs to not lose 90 games again. This year was better because they showed progress, although the record didn't really reflect that. The problem was they had a really young staff that was also crushed by injuries. The last two months were encouraging, however. Robert Stephenson finally looked like the guy we all thought he could be, Luis Castillo is already dominant, and Sal Romano could be something real. If Homer Bailey is done being injured and back to being good like he was the last half dozen starts, add a free agent starter I could see this team being next season's Twins. Maybe Amir Garrett and Brandon Finnegan will be useful too. I just wanna watch some baseball that matters. That's my only hope. Just make the games mean something again. 2018 was the year they circled to compete when they blew it up in 2015 so if things aren't turned around next season I will get impatient. Their window pretty much slammed shut this season, and while I kinda saw that coming, I didn't think it was going to be quite this abrupt. They basically have Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey, and Brandon Crawford worth keeping. The rest is a bunch of trash mixed in with a whole lot of terribly bloated contracts. They should just try to blow it all up (minus the three I mentioned) and rebuild their farm system, but those contracts aren't going to bring much in return. There's talk of trying to bring in Giancarlo Stanton, but that makes absolutely no sense considering he's another bloated contract and they have literally nothing worth trading for him. Oh well. Three titles in five seasons is well worth the unwatchable garbage they're probably going to trot out there for the next half decade to decade. There will be more of a fire sale by the Jays as they sell off basically everyone and anyone. They sold the farm to get what? Their hearts broken a mere 2 feet from the finish line. I want him to be a lifer. He's definitely loosened up over time (probably thanks to the bigger personalities of Melky and Yolmer especially) but is the kind of steady pro that you want around with younger guys. Yolmer is guy I want around for as long as his utility player game can hold up. He's got a good looseness and energy to go with filling that utility role well. Avi's tough because this was a breakout but there's also no way a .392 BABIP is sustainable. The thing with Rodon's shoulder is bad news because shoulder injuries are about the worst thing for pitchers. Hit on a couple more bullpen reclamation projects, find a couple more guys to chew up starter innings, find a CF body and see if what's here can cut the losses to, say, 85 next season. The young, new players , namely Pham and DeJoung were two of the brightest spots during an otherwise mediocre and underwhelming season. The veterans or "Cardinal guys", from what I saw, were the ones who made errors and baserunning mistakes, swinging wildly and striking out. The " Cardinal Way" would probably work much better if the Cardinals were winning and weren't trying to play moneyball with players like Matt Carpenter and Piscotty. The roster of average to below average players is the problem with the Cardinals, not the handful of new players who actually contributed, except for Brett Cecil he sucked and evidently it was because he played too much Halo. A competent manager who knew how to manage in-game situations would be a welcome change too. I hope there are a lot of new faces on the Cardinals next year. I'm not too sure which way it will go now, that game 3 win may have saved his job but I still wouldn't be too shocked if they let him go. For being a forming pitching coach, He didn't exactly managed the pitching (starting or bullpen) well at all. Also, whoever their base running coach is needs to be fired out of a cannon into the Charles River. Their "aggressive" base running was completely idiotic at best. As for what's missing? These days, windows open and close so fast, you've got to take what you can get. I haven't seen my team win anything meaningful in 29 years, and really hoping this is finally their year. Since it could be their last for another 29 years. It's why I was really happy to see the Royals win the World Series. Must have been incredible for their fans, since I don't think it was a big shock they probably won't be returning anytime soon. Like in hockey... Got to see the Kings win two Cups in three years. I'll probably never see that again. But I got to see it happen, and that's what counts. Uh... to get back on topic, here's hoping the Angels are a slightly better next season.
