I'm good with the AL vote, and I'm ok with the NL vote. I'm starting to wonder if Paul Goldschmidt is ever going to win MVP. For as good as he is, he's so incredibly overlooked. I can see Stanton taking the award over him strictly due to the home runs, but Votto finishing in second? I dunno about that one. Votto had a good year, no doubt. But the Reds were basically never competitive last season, and for that matter, neither were the Marlins. Goldy led that D Backs team to one of their best seasons in years. I guess that final month really hurt him.

So NPB and MLB resolved their posting system issues and Shohei Otani is coming over. Before he breaks fantasy baseball I've got the feeling he's gonna surprise with his team choice. Yankees appear to be the favorite right now with Hideki Matsui on deck to recruit him and with the 2nd greatest amount of bonus pool money, but Otani's said money isn't important to him and the fact that he could've waited two years to make $100,000,000+ but is instead coming over now is a sure sign he means it.

Story came out that if Chase Utley retires and wants to stay in baseball, the Phillies could offer him the bench coach job. Not Gabe “coconut oil nuts” Kapler, but the Phillies.

Not sure how I’d feel as a rookie manager in a big market having the fans calling for one of the biggest names in franchise history to take my job after the first losing streak.

Wait, they're gonna hire Steve Jeltz, too?

Yeah also Pat Combs as pitching coach, Don Carmen as bullpen coach, and Wes Chamberlain as hitting coach.

Louis Agyao will be a special advisor to special advisor Dicke Thon

New York media is reporting that Aaron Boone will be named Yankee manager sometime next week.  I feel as good about this as I did when Joe Torre was named manager before the '96 season.  Guess we'll have to wait and see how this pans out if it turns out to be true.

Ohtani to the Angels. So much for wanting a "small market"

Most of the vocal OC types would argue with your point.

The Angels always feel like a mid-size market team to me, while playing in Market #2.

I mean no disrespect, it just feels like their organizational mantra isn't as big-market as the Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, etc.

It makes sense to me.  West coast club, medium-ish market.  Good luck to him.

They're the Mets with one less ring.

I really didn't expect Ohtani to sign with the Angels, but now I'm excited to see just what he can do. The nice thing is that his contract isn't massive, so it won't end up like Gary Matthews etc. If he doesn't pan out exactly. With what seems to be a surplus (I say this hesitantly based on their rotation's injury-ridden past few years) of starters, I wonder if someone's going to get flipped for a 2nd or 3rd baseman.

Either way, I'm excited to see just what Shohei can do in the majors.

YES!

Tossing 100 on a Monday, DHing on a Wednesday? Sure, what the hell, why not?

This’ll be a fun wrinkle. Consider me actually excited for baseball season!

Exactly. The thought that Anaheim is a "medium" sized market is ludicrous.
