CAA if they are desperate.  Picking off Virginia is one thing, but it doesn't change the issue that UMBC is a commuter campus within the Maryland system.

This is still generally true, though a lot of residence space has been constructed recently.  Assuming that push continues, there is a lot of vacant land around the perimeter of the campus.

I believe the state owns all or most of the vacant land at the top and bottom of the picture.  Also, I believe the new arena, which just opened a few months ago, is on the site of the dirt pile just above the soccer/lacrosse stadium.

And, yes, to show that there are still a lot of commuters, there are admittedly a lot of parking lots around the campus.  In addition, there are parking spaces on the loop road almost all of the way around.

I know I'm jumping in a little late on this, but raise your hand if you actually knew anything about UMBC before Friday night.

*raises hand because it's 25 minutes from his house and his wife earned one of her degrees there.

I knew about UMBC before, because Duff Goldman (of Food Network fame) went there. He wore a UMBC hockey jersey on his Ace of Cakes show once.

yup, and I almost worked in baltimore county.

Also, always considered UMBC as a fake school compared to UMD

The way I see it, UMBC is pretty happy where they are. Any move to another conference would a be a very knee jerk decision by that conference. There isn't a lot that the school has in terms of prestige in terms of athletics outside of a wild run to the men's soccer College Cup semifinals in 2014.

I knew about UMBC because I lived in DC for a bit and remember how adorable this logo looked when I saw it around:

Syracuse must be the St. Louis Cardinals of college basketball.

If you count Final Four appearances as titles, sure, I can but that. Cuse basketball fans are nowhere near as bad as Cardinals fans though, and that -- to me -- is a big part of why the Cardinals are so loathed.

Nevada didnt lead until 9 seconds remaining and upsets Cincinnati. I swear Cincinnati sports teams can never win important games.

Who would have guessed it would be 11th seed Loyola and 7th seed Nevada along with 5th seed Kentucky against either 9th seed Kansas State or 16 seed UMBC in the Sweet 16 for the South region?

I remember making fun of Eric Musselman with @Cujo at LEAST a decade ago when he was drinking himself out of the two worst NBA coaching gigs in the league. We were also ALL ABOUT Reggie Theus then, too. Those were the days.

I used UMBC as my NCAA Teambuilder team for years because they used a Chesapeake Bay Retriever as their logo and that is AWESOME. There really aren’t enough dog based logos in sports.

Do you think there is such a thing as too many upsets? I think this tournament is basically becoming a little too upset-heavy.

We get it, you can never be happy.

Seriously, upset central is your ideal. If you don't like this, I'm not sure what you have of value to offer.

Upsets are fun and all until you remember that Duke and Kentucky will steamroll everyone left by 20+ and play in the title game.

Cincinnati and Xavier were especially painful to watch today. I didn’t have either team going far, but I was kind of hoping to see them showdown in the Final Four.

No kidding. Upsets are fun until you get a UConn/Butler type final from 2011 where the championship game absolutely sucked because neither team, in truth, was close to being the best team from that season.

Upsets are fun to an extent. In exceeding doses, they can utterly wreck the balance of the tournament.
