With a potential NBA expansion soon, the top 5 markets available are looking for an identity package to promote their candidacy. For this event, you must create a primary logo, a wordmark, a white uniform, and a colored uniform for a team based in one of the following cities: Seattle (WA), Mexico City (Mexico), Louisville (KY), Hampton Roads (VA), Vancouver (BC).

Requirements

  • You can select the name of the team.
  • The city and the name of the team must both appear on the wordmark.
  • You must submit a primary logo, a wordmark, a white uniform, and a colored uniform for your team. A uniform consists of a jersey and shorts.
  • Use a template showing the set as if it was laying flat on a surface. Do NOT submit your entry on a 3D template, as it will be disqualified.
  • The selected uniform template must display both the front and the back of the jersey.

Deadline: November 17th, 11:59AM Eastern Time

Guidelines for submitting your entry

Failure to follow the guidelines could result in your entry being inadvertently (or intentionally) excluded from judging.

Entries must be emailed to logolympiad (at) gmail (dot) com prior to the set deadline. Subject line should be the event number (Ex: Event 1). Once you submit your entry, it is considered final.

Entries must be submitted as .jpg, .gif, or .png formats. The file name format of the submission is: event#_yourusername.extension (Ex: event1_pollux.png). The file must be attached to your email.

All final entries must be 800x600 pixels with at least 70 pixels of white space at the bottom of the image. This means that your presentation has to fit in an 800x530 pixels window (800 pixels wide by 530 pixels high). I will NOT resize entries that are not properly done, so make sure it’s right.

The background of the entries should be solid white, unless otherwise specified. You must not use gradients, shadows, patterns, lines, etc. on your background.

Do not add any text, like labels, or images to your submission, unless otherwise specified. Do not add the team name, location, entry number, event type, etc.

Do not include your name or any other personal identifiers on your submission. Also, do not watermark your work. I will add a watermark to each entry before they get posted for judging. I will also provide each entry with a number. You are expected to keep the identity of your entry anonymous until the end of the event. If you think you know the identity of another designer, keep it to yourself. Anyone who exposes their identity or the identity of anyone else will be DQ’d.

You should receive an automatic reply once you submit your entry. If you don’t receive one, please PM me directly. If I see an issue with the format of your submission, I will contact you giving you a chance to resubmit. I will NOT, however, comment on the content of the submission.

Do we have to fit everything into one file?

As always, yes. How to lay out your work onto a single file is part of the challenge, especially when there are lots of elements to display.

You can use the search feature and look for older Logolympiad's Fantasy Team events to see how the layout was done on the submissions.

Can we use team names of defunct teams? ex: Seattle Sonics or Vancouver Grizzles

Yes you can. But if I were voting for this event, between two good designs, I would reward originality more than reviving an old name (but that's just me).

From a PM:

Quote

If one were to choose Hampton Roads does the team have to be called the Hampton Roads “team name” or can we chose one of the 7 cities?

Keep the name Hampton Roads.

They can't even be named after the state?

No. Use one of the five city names listed in the original post.

If we wanted to could we put an abbreviated city name on just the jerseys, akin to OKC on the thunder unis?

Yes, you can use abbreviations on the jerseys, both for the city name and the team name.

If we can fit a secondary logo in the file, may we?

No. Everyone will be evaluated on the same elements, so you should only submit what is required.

What if there is a secondary logo as a uniform element? But not shown full size anywhere else on the presentation?

Does does a partial logo count?

If, by partial logo, you mean an element or elements of the primary logo you are creating, then yes, it is allowed.

So, we're allowed to have a secondary logo if it is part of the primary logo?

To me, taking elements out of the primary logo doesn't constitute a secondary logo. So in that sense, yes, you could see it as a secondary logo, but I don't.

What I don't want is you adding a completely new secondary logo. What you need to submit: a primary logo, a wordmark, and two uniform sets (jerseys and shorts only). Nothing more.
