Recommended Posts

For this event, you must create an alternate logo for any team, past or present, from the Federal Hockey League. The logo should be strong enough to replace the current primary for the team.

Requirements

  • Use colors that are already part of the team’s current color scheme. I will check the colors on the mother site to ensure that you are not adding more colors.
  • Include the current primary logo in your submission as a reference. The primary logo should not take more than 150px by 150px on the template, as it is not the focus of the work here.

Deadline: December 4th, 11:59AM Eastern Time

Guidelines for submitting your entry

Failure to follow the guidelines could result in your entry being inadvertently (or intentionally) excluded from judging.

Entries must be emailed to logolympiad (at) gmail (dot) com prior to the set deadline. Subject line should be the event number (Ex: Event 1). Once you submit your entry, it is considered final.

Entries must be submitted as .jpg, .gif, or .png formats. The file name format of the submission is: event#_yourusername.extension (Ex: event1_pollux.png). The file must be attached to your email.

All final entries must be 800x600 pixels with at least 70 pixels of white space at the bottom of the image. This means that your presentation has to fit in an 800x530 pixels window (800 pixels wide by 530 pixels high). I will NOT resize entries that are not properly done, so make sure it’s right.

The background of the entries should be solid white, unless otherwise specified. You must not use gradients, shadows, patterns, lines, etc. on your background.

Do not add any text, like labels, or images to your submission, unless otherwise specified. Do not add the team name, location, entry number, event type, etc.

Do not include your name or any other personal identifiers on your submission. Also, do not watermark your work. I will add a watermark to each entry before they get posted for judging. I will also provide each entry with a number. You are expected to keep the identity of your entry anonymous until the end of the event. If you think you know the identity of another designer, keep it to yourself. Anyone who exposes their identity or the identity of anyone else will be DQ’d.

You should receive an automatic reply once you submit your entry. If you don’t receive one, please PM me directly. If I see an issue with the format of your submission, I will contact you giving you a chance to resubmit. I will NOT, however, comment on the content of the submission.

Would we be allowed to use a different shade of a color in the team's color scheme for highlighting/shadowing?

If it's not a distinct color on the team's palette, then don't use it. Stick with the colors that can be seen on the mother site.

From a PM:

The brief states the original logo is not to be larger than 150px square in the final presentation. I'm working on a secondary for the Brooklyn Aviators and sizing the original logo under 150px puts it at 150px wide by 50px high, obliterating its text and some colors. Would it be acceptable for a slightly larger size, say something in the arena of 300px wide by 100px high?

Don't worry about the quality of the original logo, even if it's small. It is there just to show which team your submission is associated with. I open all logos on the site at full resolution to check for the colors, so even if you "lose" a color or text, it doesn't matter. It won't come into play whether your submission is accepted or DQ'd.

Do we have to use ALL colours from the original logo?

Let's say a team uses 2 primary and one secondary colour, can we stick with the 2 primaries?

You can use as many colors you want from the color palette of the team. You don't need to use them all.

On this post, you say the due date is Dec. 5, but on the full calendar, you said Dec. 4. Which is it?

Oh crap this is a major mistake on my part. It is due today, December 4. Just like all events, this one runs for 7 days.

I edited the original post.

See the previous four posts. Nothing struck me odd until I saw the post for Event 9 today.

Sorry. It was an honest mistake. I feel bad because I know some people look at the deadline once and then work with that. I checked every date remaining and they're OK, so it shouldn't happen again.

I'll take the blame on this one...
