DC United finally gets a win!!!

SN: I hate how shiny the turf looks during televised night time sporting events at the Naval Academy stadium. Don't know whether it's the type of turf they have or the stadium's lights, but it bugs me every time.

Some turf is just shinier than others. Some looks like a matte finish. Probably the manufacturer. But, yeah, I can't stand the shiny turf, either.

MLS board of govs. are scheduled to meet today to discuss expansion. Yesterday Cincinnati city council approved the West End stadium deal, clearing the way for MLS. At this point I expect MLS to name Cincinnati as the next expansion club with a possible start in 2019. MLS has mentioned that they want to even out the divisions as soon as possible and they have mentioned that Nippert Stadium is usable as a temporary stadium until the new stadium is built. This would put Sacramento and Detroit back into the mix of the original expansion candidates for the second wave of expansion as well as give Sacramento more time to gather more investors. I would love to see Sacramento in at some point. Phoenix also has a very good shot in the second wave as well.

The president of FC Cincinnati has also mentioned that upon a move to MLS the club would retain their orange and blue colors but would rebrand and the official name of the club would change from Futbol Club Cincinnati to Fussball Club Cincinnati (FUßBALL CLUB CINCINNATI in German) to reflect the cities German heritage.

I’m just gonna say this as someone who works closely with the club, and especially closely in the last few months. Sacramento Republic will never, and I mean NEVER, get an MLS expansion team. It sucks, and those who are to blame are absolute DINGUSES, but it’s basically dead.

Congrats, Cincy. I guess.

That's really a shame. I was rooting hard for you guys.

Ugh, on two fronts.

1) They were Futbol Club not Football Club?

2) They're going to be Fussball Club not Football Club?

Trying too hard.

1. Yes and it was very dumb.

2. Yes and it's even dumber.

they'll definitely need a logo rebrand if they get the MLS bid, but fussball is just awful.

I saw Jeff Berding at The Precinct (not to brag) on Saturday night. I offered him my seat at the bar when our table was ready. I didn't recognize him until after I'd given up my seat. I couldve told him what a bad idea fussball is, but I most certainly would not have.

Not a fan of the Fussball Club or Futbol Club. People here usually just refer to them as FC Cincinnati or FCC anyway and that will likely not change. Not sure if they plan on using the English version of Fussball or the German version of Fußball with the esset. Ive seen both mentioned.

Yeah, so were we! Especially my bosses, some who poured literally every single dime they had into this project.

I'm not going to publicly call out by name who I think is the most to blame for this thing turning from almost a sure thing to dead and buried, because there is a LOT of blame to go around. But I'll just say that his stupid :censored:ing dribblyball team is about to lose a pretty good chunk of their already pathetic fanbase (because when it comes to most Sacramento sports fans, they're interchangeable). I know of a local sponsor or two who are absolutely furious over this as well due to future lost revenue dollars.

Amazing that these :censored:s came in and have now ruined TWO pro sports teams in Sacramento, one of which they didn't even own until forcing their way in! That right there takes talent.

Why isn't the Concacaf Champions League on regular TV? I couldn't even find it on the Mexican TV channels! Toronto lost 2-1 at home so it's a long way back next week.

It was on Univision Desportes, like the majority of the tournament for both Liga MX and MLS entrants. DirecTV 464.

In other stadium news, this has been blowing up NYCFC social media; their proposal for a stadium on the Harlem River leaked yesterday.

Harlem_River_Yards_Soccer_Stadium_777x46

It's part of a larger development plan that includes housing, retail, and partners with some very heavy real estate hitters.

Harlem-River-Yards-Day-1024x540.png

You can see Yankee Stadium in the background of that photoshop - the plan calls for no parking on site, but using the Yankee Stadium parking lots and running a shuttle train back and forth on existing rail lines.

Not a bad location at all.

I'd prefer it be on a subway line, but that might be a bit much to ask for.  This parcel is about a ten-minute walk from the nearest subway station, and there's a MetroNorth (commuter rail) station just a block farther away.

You can read the whole proposal they submitted to the State of New York here:

Part 1 (PDF)

Part 2 (PDF)

Part 3 (PDF)

Part 4 (PDF)

Part 5 (PDF)

It's exhaustive, and split into five sections.  That fifth part is truncated - only three pages, and cuts off in the middle.  We don't get their final sales pitch.  But we have the bulk of it.

This is very exciting.  We don't know what the state's timetable is (they've already blown through the club's timetable for approving the proposal), but can't come soon enough.  Not even so much because other fans tease us; that doesn't bother me.  What I mind is our own supporters sniping and bitching about the lack of announcements.  As though not wanting to give meaningless updates means that the club is simply content to sit back and do nothing.

I was reading a bit about this yesterday. Exciting stuff for NYCFC. It definitely would stand out as the most iconic stadium in MLS. Great little spot by the river. Hope it comes to fruition.

You kind of answer this, but NYC of all places seems like parking should be an afterthought.

A 10-minute walk is about a half-mile. Do New Yorkers expect better than that? A shuttle is better than nothing.

Yeah, I’ve known several people who sold their cars before moving to NYC because all it really is there is a constant sunken cost. I’d imagine that NYC probably gouges parking as bad as the Bay Area teams with the intent to specifically discourage people from driving to the games and encourage the use of PT.

Yankee Stadium was built with way too much parking - most of it goes unused, even when the stadium is full.

Half a mile isn’t ideal, although they could probably cut that down if they built another pedestrian bridge over the Harlem River on a slightly more direct path.

I think I know who you're referring to.  Couldn't agree more.  I also figured it was dead and buried months ago when the early rumblings of things unraveling started coming to the surface.  Can't say I'm shocked but it's sad nonetheless for those of us who like soccer in Sacramento.  It's annoying how professional sports in this town have turned into a dumpster fire over the years.

Maybe you can take "man baby snake" off our hands and get in while allowing Columbus to stay put.
