Well they are an affiliate of the Quakes so that pretty much sums it up right there.

Well, so was Republic for the first two years. San Jose has a notoriously bad group of supporters, but Reno supporters are just downright filth. 

 

I’m never gonna understand just what their beef with us is. They’ve been nothing but complete a—holes from the very first minute they came to our park and haven’t let up an ounce since. They target our fans at their games to the point where we’ve had long time season ticket holders who won’t make the trip because they don’t feel safe, they do dumb like that on Twitter (this is their front office, too), and go so far as to send their fans to our games to cheer on whoever we’re playing.  It’s downright weird and really needs to be handled by someone over there with any sense. 

 

And its SO rich because Reno is one of the trashiest most meth riddled places I’ve ever been. I’m from the Reno area and never for a second considered it a place to settle down because it sucks. Sacramento is nothing that special but Reno makes it look like a Corona commercial in comparison.

Very productive discussions with Sacramento, as well as in Detroit where we're working with that ownership group on possible modifications of Ford Field that could, perhaps, make that city more MLS ready than it is today. There's a lot of engagement going on in San Diego. Recent news out of Las Vegas, who has a thriving USL team and their mayor reached out to us very recently. San Antonio remains on our list and we have great respect for what the NBA ownership team has done there. So there remains a lot of interest in MLS and we'll continue to get back to work and figure out what the next steps are."

San Antonio is close to selling out next week's open Cup match vs FC Dallas. I'm hoping to get a couple seats because I've missed the first few home games this year. I'll probably be wearing my STC jersey though  but I plan on getting the new home kit. I hope MLS isn't still trying to put a stadium downtown, because right now SA is having probelms getting the baseball stadium built. The last mayor vetoed it knowing it would be necessary for the Missions when they get AAA ball next year.

Louisville City and Detroit City supporters are pretty bad as well. I get that they are passionate for their team but they are a-holes to the other teams.

Is there a reason why DC couldnt have started the season at RFK and then move to Audi Field when its completed? They are still renting locker room space and the practice fields outside RFK.

So if Audi Field is not open yet and DC isn't playing at RFK, where are they playing?  Or have they been playing on the road the entire season so far?

They wanted to play all on the road until then which is why they didn't do the lease with RFK this season.

 

However, MLS wouldn't let them. So, they've played two games at 'home'. One at Annapolis (Naval Academy), and another at their sports complex they play Open Cup games at (seats like 4000 people) to satisfy the requirement of the league wanting at least two games scheduled at home.

 

Remember, LAFC had a lot of home games to start the season, too. Made the season too front heavy for everyone else.

Totally mystifying why San Antonio has a proven track record but gets a shrug from MLS while Austin is a giant shruggie face but we'll move heaven and earth to go there.

The ongoing divorce of Peter and Julianna Holt is likely the elephant in the room.

 

They possessed 40% of the Spurs ownership and Peter gave her the titles of CEO and Chairwoman in 2016, well before she filed for divorce this February. Peter also divested himself from the family business (Caterpillar equipment dealerships) and gave it to their son and daughter to run.

Even before this divorce was announced the MLS offices seemed intent on making San Antonio FC move from Toyota Stadium to a bigger facility even though it's relatively brand new (2013-2014) and purpose built for quick expansion as needed. They've seemed to have backed off of that now. The divorce may have played a role though, just not sure how big of one.

According to Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber, Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores "were really front runners" to land a Detroit-based MLS expansion team when their bid was based upon playing in a soccer-specific open-air stadium on a former jail site in the city's downtown. However, Garber added that the decision to abandon said plans in favor of retrofitting Ford Field for soccer "set them back" amongst expansion hopefuls.

Elsewhere on the MLS expansion front, apparently FC Cincinnati will - as previously rumored - transition from being officially branded as Futbol Club Cincinnati to Fussbal Club Cincinnati when the organization moves to Major League Soccer next season.
