So is the Fire in Bridgeview situation different than that of Galaxy being in Carson & Red Bull being in Harrison, NJ? Prior to the existence of NYCFC and LAFC I heard way more complaints from Chicago fans regarding the Fire's stadium location than I did that of LA and NY fans.

It’s absolutely different than it is in Southern California for the Galaxy due to the necessity of public transportation. You basically have to drive everywhere in Southern California so that doesn’t really matter at all for them. You just drive right up, park in the big ass gated off parking lot, and you’re Good to go. It’s different in New York and Chicago because of how vital rail travel is in those areas. Trying to get somewhere in either of those cities that’s even more than a few blocks off of the rail line is chaotic.

I was in Chicago a few years ago with a local buddy who was absolutely adamant that he was going to give me a tour of the ENTIRE Chicagoland area. I don’t think there’s an inch of that city I didn’t see and get some type of historical explanation of. The only thing I remember about the stadium Fire play in is it was WAY about there. I thought that was strange and couldn’t see how people would trek down that way for games regularly. It was a lot like how I felt about going to Coyotes games in Glendale while living in Tempe. I did it once and vowed to NEVER do it again because it was such a terrible experience before I even left the car.

And it's a brutal comparison when the United Center and Soldier Field are right downtown, and Wrigley/Comiskey are a bit further afield but still L-accessible. In some markets, suburban sports venues make sense, but not in an old, dense, big city like Chicago. It's minor league stuff there.

So where would the proposed USL stadium be in compared the venues you mentioned? Not familiar with Chicago.

I would love to see St Louis in MLS. Would make a great rivalry with Kansas City, Chicago, and Cincinnati. I think the next round of expansion will be between, Phoenix, Sacramento, St Louis, San Diego and Detroit. I think Indy and Raleigh-Durham have moved nowhere. Charlotte and Tampa Bay are dead. San Antonio is on life support depending on Austin. Las Vegas and Louisville have recently entered the mix but I dont think they will go far.

Does Didier Drogba playing for Phoenix enhance their chances?  I would think so.

Not as much as you would think. The Phoenix bid would have several hurdles to clear before it would be viable, and even then, is the interest there? How are they going to do mid July/August games even with an 8 PM start?

I’d love to see the Phoenix bid work out, and think the market has a ton of potential if done right. I just don’t think it will work as is currently constructed/planned.

Ive seen enough of this up close to know that the most important thing, and maybe even the ONLY thing that really matters, is funding. This last bid showed that. The deeper your pockets are, the better chance you’ve got. Basically every single “potential” MLS bid right now suffers from that same issue. That’s why a lot of these teams aren’t already in MLS. Having a flashy name up front is cool and all, but it doesn’t matter a damn bit if they don’t have the investors. Hell, look at Miami.

Outdoor Phoenix soccer in the summer is a ludicrous idea on its face. It shouldn't exist.

If Phoenix does get in they have to have a climate controlled facility

Umm, so... Has anyone heard about this nonsense yet? This seems like a monumentally stupid idea for US soccer that could potentially cripple the movement IMO.

Sounds stupid.  If the leagues combine, it would be 41 teams if none of the Mexican teams fold, and I don't think European leagues have that many.

Aren’t the D-Backs looking for a new ballpark?  Not sure how viable a Chase Field renovation is but it’s a retractable roof, downtown facility.
