USPTO Experience?

Has anyone floating around the boards these days ever actually endeavored to trademark one of their works?

I have a brand name I've been considering trademarking for some time, and while I don't find the USPTO's process intimidating enough to hire an attorney for assistance (I only hire attorneys to threaten or file lawsuits; BS paperwork?  I can do myself), I wonder if there's anyone out there with past experience to ask advice of should the need arise.

I think you just fill out the application, pay the fee, and then after a suitable amount of time for a government agency to perform its job, you get a response affirming or denying your trademark.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry
