Do not lose confidence. That's what the NFL wants you to do.

The NFL would actually want you to gain confidence in this league considering that they're airing games on the NFL Network. Probably just filler until the draft but it's better filler than last year's.

More regarding officiating, replay, and OT.

Quote

Among them will be a ninth member of the officiating crew, called a SkyJudge who will be in the press box and can instantly correct “obvious and egregious” officiating errors, like the one that marred the NFC championship game. Overtime will be different, too.

Perhaps the most timely change is the SkyJudge, who is able to use real-time technology to correct clear errors involving player safety anytime during a game and pass interference inside of five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The SkyJudge was already in place before the non-call late in the NFC championship game that pretty much cost New Orleans a spot in the Super Bowl. NFL officiating chief Al Riveron called Saints coach Sean Payton after the game and admitted the game officials missed the helmet-to-helmet hit and pass interference penalty by Rams defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman.

Pereira said it was modeled in part after the college targeting rule, which allows replay to step in and call targeting even if was not called on field, or take it off if was called but wasn’t not really targeting.

In overtime, each team will get the ball once, first-and-goal from the 10. Teams have to score a touchdown and go for two points. Field goals aren’t allowed. The other team then gets a series and can either match the other team or win.

The NFL is airing AAF games on the NFL Network. I’m unsure where the idea that the NFL is out to get the AAF comes from.

Makes about as much sense as the NBA wanting to derail the G-League.

The NFL is probably thinking that the student-athlete model (read: sham) the NCAA has is going to be unworkable soon and they need a new source for young talent. So, they'll promote this league and if it gains traction they might officially adopt the AAF as their minor league.

The NFL isn't about to get into the player development business unless it actually has to.

Their interest, through NFL Network, seems pretty straightforward to me: they have a football channel, this league will give them some fresh football content in the off season

Probably the idea that the NFL has been out to get most competing leagues historically. But in this case I don't think they are, which is to the AAF's benefit. They're not setting themselves up to be anything but complimentary to the NFL. Which isn't something typically tried by these alt leagues. Hell, the AAF is using some rules that NFL has been considering, it's a great way for the NFL to see how they go and tweak their plans for those rules accordingly. I don't think that's by accident.

My theory was more "the NFL is hedging its bets and doesn't want to be caught with its pants down if the NCAA keels over from having to pay athletes" than this is certainly going to be the NFL's minor league. As far as TV is concerned, though, I agree that the NFL probably sees the AAF as filler until the draft but if it gets a better-than-expected audience, the NFL may consider having more connections to the AAF.

If they'll show Big 33 and other high school games no reason not to show the AAF.

It may not make or break the league, but when they're behind on something they've put a lot of weight behind, that doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the league.

It speaks to a general level of mismanagement. Companies wanting to enter a crowded marketplace can’t afford a lot of that.

Guys, check out the date of this announcement.  They can't get out their app because they apparetly are breaking the space-time continium.

What is the Alliance?

Also, they still fail to mention in regards to in-game betting that the bettor's device must be in a state which permits it.  There's only seven states (plus New Mexico Native American casinos) which do.  If you live in Orlando, you cannot place a bet on the Apollos.  Same in Memphis.   Plus, they aren't forthright regarding the prohibition of playing Daily Fantasy in both Alabama and Arizona.

“I like to call this football in its purest sense,” said (San Diego Fleet head coach Mike) Martz. “Nobody’s going to make a big paycheck, there’s not a big splash here, it’s so pure. It’s like college, but there’s no boosters, there’s no scholarships; it’s just football. I love that part of it.”

Wonder how much he's being paid.

Huh, I know it's a tiny thing, but do organizations even proofread anymore? I swear I remember ESPN once posting about a player that had been on the Cubs since 2102.

Minor rant aside, they really should've brought out the app for testing when the scrimmages were going. Yeah, you're not going to get anywhere near the number of people watching a scrimmage as you are a game, but if you had issues with streaming a scrimmage then that would clearly be a major issue you want to fix before having thousands more people watch a live game on your app. As far as gambling goes, that's on the consumer if they don't know their state's gaming laws. Probably would detect the IP you use for the app and restrict/open up the ability to gamble based on that. Customer uses a VPN? Then that's on the customer for breaking the law.

The stadium was empty, so the dozen(s) of employees doing a beta test would have all the stadium's bandwidth at their disposal.  The conditions in a real game would be vastly different.

Doesn't the fact that you have to be in a state which allows online gambling to online gamble go without saying?
