Using the Golden Gate Bridge would be a lot better. No one cares about the Bay Bridge. My list of suggestions would be that, San Francisco Warriors, and Gotham instead of Copperplate.

I bet most people don't know that it's the Bay Bridge and not the Golden Gate Bridge in the first place.

Los Angeles doesn't even have notable lakes

Hey, there is Silver Lake! And Toluca Lake! And Hollywood Reservoir! That's three right there, surely it must thusly be a perfect name for the city!

I learned that "Golden State" meant Oakland from Hanging With Mr.Cooper.

FWIW, I'm pro-Golden State but only because I'm anti-San Francisco. And I think Oakland is about to enjoy to Wakanda-influenced cultural renaissance so it's a bummer they're losing their basketball team.

No, people know what the Golden Gate Bridge looks like. They've watched Full House!

The weird thing is when that logo was introduced, that bridge wasn't even finished yet.

To be honest, living in the East Bay my whole life, I don’t think you all realize how disprespectful it would be to actually change the name to ‘San Francisco’. And quite honestly, unless you live here, you really can’t understand it. ‘Golden State’ may not be a perfect title but it’s far better than changing it to SF at this point. Also regarding the bridge, the Golden Gate is obviously far more iconic, but the Bay Area would be nothing without The Bay Bridge.  1/4 million people use it daily. So honestly I’ve never heard anyone here say we should go back to the GGB logo, everyone here is fine with it. Just my 2 cents though

I wish I could like this more than once. 100% spot on.

I agree with this. I wouldn’t have minded the proposed “Oakland Warriors” name from the 1990s (after the stint in San José while Oracle was being gutted and rebuilt from the inside). SF Warriors, while I once defended it, really doesn’t work after the years in Oakland and being a general “Bay Area” team for so long. Golden State may be dumb and I may not like it, but I don’t mind it as much now as I did in my youth.

Also, the Bay Bridge is pretty cool-looking, especially the new eastern span.

I think Chris' april fools joke next year should be breaking the news that the warriors will be changing the logo to the western span of the bay bridge with the opening of the new arena, complete with "The Bay Lights" on the jersey lit up with LEDs.

Maybe the Warriors and Sharks should have gone halfsies on a new arena in the parking lot of the Cow Palace (if it's possible -- I haven't analyzed the terrain) circa 1993 instead of building the arena in San Jose and renovating the Coliseum Arena. Then we could have had the San Francisco Sharks and the San Francisco Warriors for a long while and kept "Golden State" to a relatively brief aberration. Of course, they still wouldn't be in San Francisco city limits, but hey, who can be these days?

I’ve always wished the Warriors, if anything, used a more Bay Area themed moniker such as “Golden Gate” or even “Bay Area”. Golden State is fine and I like it because it’s relatively unique in American sports, but it’s kind of weird as it represents the ENTIRE state rather than just the region. You could be a Warriors fan in LA who claims that the team is trying to represent you, and you wouldn’t really be wrong. It’s the same issue we had with the California Angels. Not a bad sounding name and kind of different, but you’re stretching further than you probably should.

Have you ever tried getting anything done through Bay Area politics? It’s like trying to build a table with an eyeglass screwdriver while you’re standing atop a land mine. It’s a situation with both inadequate tools and dangerous ground, which will either produce disappointment or catastrophic failure.

Besides, the area around the Cow Palace isn’t exactly the best place to put an arena. I know that China Basin was skid row before Mays Park, but the opportunities for development were far greater there than they are around the Cow Palace. You’d run into the Oakland-Alameda County Colliseum problems.

In between writing bad commercials and worse message board posts I am also a struggling Bay Area developer. My latest condo block, Appopolis, is really tied up in red tape at the moment.

Maybe the Heat should change their name to the Sunshine State Heat.  Wouldn’t want to alienate the people in Fort Lauderdale.  How about Lone Star State Mavericks?  Can’t forget about the people in Fort Worth.  Golden State Lakers?  Can’t forget Orange County.

And the Golden Gate Bridge may be more iconic, but I think it’s overrated.  I think area that it’s in and the unique color are why it’s so famous.  The bridge itself is really nothing special, it’s just an ordinary suspension bridge. Both Bay Bridges are far better looking.
