Biggest Upgrades in Sports history

I'd actually never seen that top "ORIOLES" uniform before, at least not in a photo.  The hat change was an upgrade, but I'll be honest, I've never cared all that much for what's perceived now as "the Oriole look."  I prefer the older look in this instance.

I have always loved the vertical arch Orioles jersey.  However, I'm so used to the script wordmark (which I love, for the record), it wouldn't look right to see them in something like this.

With regard to the hat, the vertical arch jersey was worn with a block B cap in 1963.

This might be the best upgrade of all time. They went from a forgettable, generic look that was poorly designed to a unique and well developed identity that has stood the test of time. The identity utilizes unique colors and has a clear theme, but has never been over the top or gimmicky. It's actually kind of surprising to see something that timeless come out of the 90's. It's a modern classic that appeared just before the merchandise craze and has proven to be a strong identity for years.

Too bad they messed it up with their unnecessary tweaks.

Can't support this enough. I'm glad the Astros have their rightful colors back.

I agree it’s good that they’re back in navy and orange, but the uniform design leaves a lot to be desired.

Up until recently I thought it was one of those 100 year looks.

My apologies for the huge post, but I actually remember reading about the White Sox many uniform changes back in the late 80s in Sports Illustrated's baseball preview issue (which back in the day was probaby the second most awaited issue besides the swimsuit issue.)

Notice the drawings on the bottom of the pages, from Okkonen.  Also the article about the futuristic uniforms is pretty fun too.

Lets go back in time... to 2000. Pitt's uniforms remained in the mess known as the turn of the century.

Pay no attention to the derelict panther on the helmet...

Gradual changes brought them to something that was decent but the truth is that post Pitt script, the Panthers struggled to find an athletic identity.

Just 5 years ago Pitt's uniforms were these

Fine, but wholly mediocre. They brought the Pitt script to these uniforms in 2015, but redesigned them in 2016:

This is a lot better, but what the Pitt script comeback did was spurn the best throwback uniforms in college football and what is likely Pitt's next athletic redesign for 2019:

Put Palmer's home cap on the road jersey and you essentially have the 1965 set (see below)  Also, the jersey went from a zippered front to button down. The biggest change was the cartoon bird starting in 1966. Block letters on the home jersey were only used 1963-65.
