Rite of Spring 2018-“What happens in the playoffs stays in the playoffs”

Yeah, :censored: hockey as a sport. It shouldn’t even count.

Absolutely not. Playoffs, probably, but not 1st in the Pacific, and there's no way they would have gotten out of that LA 1st round series with Subban in net.

Very easy to forget how well Quick played in that series.

The NHL - the league that accidentally handed a championship to a first year expansion team. This is stupid.

You know what the Golden Knights are? They're when you stack a create-a-team in a video game, give them a name like Generals or Freeze or Knights with one of the clipart logo options and then you win the cup in your first year because you messed with the settings and picked whatever players you wanted.

Hey, Gary;

You can stop grandstanding to us how you much you really want Vegas in the Final.

Don't want to see your hopes crushed as Washington or Tampa tears your little pet project to pieces now, would we?

I wonder what kind of intro the Golden Knights would make for all the teams? Like, how would they have handled the Avalanche if given the chance? Dude probably fights a mountain with his sword.

You picked William Karlsson over Sidney Crosby?

I'll be concerned about other fanbases too.

Giving up a 2-0 series probably won't help the Caps shed their choker label, from hot take chuckleheads and regular people alike.

So it's going to be a Lightning/Golden Knights final...  *puke*

Definitely did not deserve that one, but no apologies at this stage of the playoffs.

It's silly as hell that the Lightning can't win in Washington to save their lives in the regular season, yet are now 7-0 in franchise history in Washington during the playoffs. Hope that's 8-0 and onto the Final come Monday night.

I can see it now...  Tampa flukes their way to the finals only to be swept the Vegas Golden Bettman's because

No, they just send assassins after Bettman.  Granted they'd have to get to him before the fans of the Wild, Beej, Predators, and, hell, the Blues (STILL WAITING AFTER 50 EMBLEER YEARS!)

Reminds me of when the Chargers won two playoff games against the Steelers in Pittsburgh, but NEVER won a regular season road game in the Steel City until 2012

Why would Bettman want Vegas to win the Cup?

Damn near every big market big star big name big ratings team is out.

Bettman if anything should be rooting for Washington because they have the closest thing left to a big name Star (Ovechkin)

That sucked.

By every measurable statistic, the Caps dominated that game start to finish. But 0/4 on the PP is inexcusable and they had so many freaking chances.

Tampa’s winning this in 6 and somehow it’s going to hurt more than all the other ones to come before this.

It’s so obvious too what the Caps have to do - fix the special teams. I thought for sure Backstrom coming back would give at least one PPG but alas. A dumb Lars Eller penalty once again leads directly to a Tampa goal as well.

This one’s a back breaker imo. No way I can see the Caps having any sort of confidence or momentum after that.

Tampa has basically become what they vanquished. Not as good 5-on-5 as they are otherwise.

Boston in round 2 scored 1 even strength goal after game 1.

Caps have crushed TB at even strength, but the Bolts have lived and died by the PP.

Pretty much. 1/2 on the power play but the winning goal was, for all intents and purposes, a power play goal as well. They're 6/14 strictly speaking and 7/14 effectively speaking, and as much as it hasn't been pretty at times, I'll take a 79% kill through four games against Washington's power play. The Capitals power play has cut through the Lightning like butter for years now, so even in a small sample size 79% actually seems acceptable even though it would be trash over a full regular season.

Besides those two, the Lightning's first goal tonight was off a careless turnover and the final one was obviously an empty netter. Nothing to apologize for but also not really a byproduct of sustained zone time. Lightning have got to get that part of their game figured out. The power play has saved their bacon to this point but continuing to rely on a 50% conversion rate is not realistic. They dominated the Bruins at 5v5 play and the Capitals were a worse 5v5 team this year than Boston was, but watching these games you would never think that. Matchups always play such a big role; Capitals are a faster team and do a better job at getting through center and getting the Lightning off their spots in transition. It's been a problem spot this entire series, and while shot blocking is neat and everything it really should be a last resort and not actually an integral part of the game plan. Otherwise I hope Callahan is already prepared for when one of those Ovi one-timers gets under the visor because that's gonna be a problem for him.

Most importantly, the Lightning need to learn how to win home games at this stage of the playoffs. Under Jon Cooper, the Lightning have a 3-8 home record in ECF and Stanley Cup Final home games. They've lost two Game 6's when up 3-2, they've lost two Game 5's when tied 2-2. They've had problems at home for years and I don't understand why. They rescued themselves from one serious hole, but I'm not about to start feeling comfortable about going to Washington again with elimination at stake. That undefeated record in D.C. is eventually going to burst; if it happens on Monday, I hope it's not with the links next on the players' schedule.
