Do people hate the Warriors or do they hate KD? If you hate the Warriors, why? Because they drafted All-Stars/HOF players 3 out of 4 years (shoutout Ekpe Udoh), won a title then positioned themselves to land the 2nd best player in the world?

They hate the Warriors because they're the best team. The best teams are the most hated. Enjoy it.

The Durant thing, I don't think anybody can blame him, but it was frustrating as somebody who is not a fan of the Warriors, OKC, or the Cavs. After the Warriors vs. Cavaliers II, I was very excited about the prospect of a third series between the two. When Durant signed with Golden State, it suddenly seemed less interesting because we all knew they'd steamroll anybody that stood in their way and it removed another team (OKC) as a threat. I just laugh at the hyperbole of the narrative that the Warriors have killed the NBA.

We said the same thing about the Yankees, Patriots, Lakers and Celtics and the leagues still run. I'm more annoyed by the talk show guys saying, "We won't talk about Lebron James and where he's going". Five minutes later after discussing some other NBA player or team, "And it all comes back to Lebron James"! NO!!!! You just know if you say it people will spout off about it for the next five minutes until you find the next interesting thing to talk about because you didn't prep for today.

People don't like KD for various reasons.

He was protected by the OKC media (remember Clay Bennett is married into the Gaylord family and The Oklahoman newspaper) and now protected by Bill Simmons. He joins a 73-9 team and tries to play it like he's naive.  Him breaking off his engagement to Monica Wright was pretty strange too.

I hate both. I hate KD for taking the easy way out by joining a 73-win team. I hate the Warriors for begging KD to join their 73-win team.

In fairness, though, I didn't like either side even before they joined forces. I couldn't stand all the cheap free throws KD got from his rip-through move, or the free pass he always got from criticism compared to LeBron. And it should be pretty obvious why a Clippers fan didn't like the Warriors.

Pretty sure this first part stems from the second part. The three clippers fans I know are still bitter about the 2014 second round.

Anyone who attacks Durant's decision to join Golden State but defends LeBron's decision to join Miami (and then Cleveland) is a hypocrite.

Here's where I disagree. Durant went to a fully established team. Lebron went to a winning team, but not a dominant team. Had he stayed in Cleveland or gone somewhere else Miami wouldn't have won a title during that time with the players that were there before he and Bosh. Golden State without Durant is still capable of winning titles easily.

We’re splitting the very thinnest of hairs here if we’re really arguing that KD going to Golden state is somehow vastly different and somehow worse than Lebron bringing Bosh with him to Miami to join Wade.

Yeah they are.

No they aren't.

LeBron signed with the Heat after losing to the Celtics. Durant signed with the Warriors after losing to the Warriors.

The Heat didn't just get done winning a ring and 73 games without LeBron in the two years prior to him joining them. The Warriors did both of those things before Durant joined them.

The Heat weren't unbeatable. They lost in the Finals twice. The Celtics and Pacers were extremely competitive with them. The Warriors with KD have yet to lose a series and have only won one series in more than 5 games. Last year, they swept the West and only lost one game in the whole playoffs.

There's really no comparison. And then trying to compare LeBron going back to Cleveland to what Durant did is even more ridiculous. Between The Decision and The Return, the Cavs were an awful, dysfunctional organization that couldn't even sniff the playoffs.

What Durant did by joining the Warriors is unprecedented. I can't think of a single other free agency decision in any sport that compares.

You have heard of the New York Yankees, correct?

K, so, in other words, you have heard of free agent signings like this before.

Just so so we have that clear.

To be fair, Giancarlo Stanton going to the Yankees does not have the impact that Durant has. Could he knock 40 home runs and drive in 1000 runs? Yes, but it depends on more factors than Durant faces. On a bad night he'll still put up 15 points and 5-10 rebounds. For Stanton, a bad night is 0-5 with three strikeouts and no RBIs.

Star player gets tired of roughing it and not having championships gift-wrapped to him in his current city, so he blows town and goes to a team he thinks can win with while putting forth minimal effort. It's the exact same ****ing thing. Stop making excuses to defend your binky.

What LeBron did to Miami in 2014 was actually pretty pathetic. He coasted his way to two titles with that franchise, they built that entire roster around him and gave him everything he could have ever wanted (except firing Spoelstra in 2011 when LeBron was pouting about whatever), and then he left them high and dry just because he wanted a newer, younger set of teammates. He's like some slutty club girl working her way through sugar daddies.

How did he coast? Coasting suggests he didn't have to put in any effort. And since Bosh was breaking down already in 2014 he's supposed to stick around? The best players on that roster in Miami were old, not just Wade and Allen. Pat Riley didn't help either because he tried to come down hard on Lebron instead of trying to see what it would take to get him to stay longer.

This is where I'm landing on this debate.

Check out this quote on Zach Lowe's ESPN profile posted earlier today

Quote

If the shift to Golden State wasn't all about championships, at least some of it was about a late-20s adult seeking change -- an unpredictable offense that would stretch his skills, a roster where he didn't stand out.

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying it. I just see a late-20s adult no longer interested in bearing the burden of a team on his shoulders. Now he's got his second ring, with people writing stories like this attempting to place him in league with Michael Jordan, all for his contributions on a team that's so good he can basically phone it in for several games and risk nothing.
