When Durant signed with Golden State, it suddenly seemed less interesting because we all knew they'd steamroll anybody that stood in their way and it removed another team (OKC) as a threat. I'm more annoyed by the talk show guys saying, "We won't talk about Lebron James and where he's going". Five minutes later after discussing some other NBA player or team, "And it all comes back to Lebron James"! NO!!!! You just know if you say it people will spout off about it for the next five minutes until you find the next interesting thing to talk about because you didn't prep for today. People don't like KD for various reasons. He was protected by the OKC media (remember Clay Bennett is married into the Gaylord family and The Oklahoman newspaper) and now protected by Bill Simmons. In fairness, though, I didn't like either side even before they joined forces. I couldn't stand all the cheap free throws KD got from his rip-through move, or the free pass he always got from criticism compared to LeBron. Here's where I disagree. Durant went to a fully established team. Lebron went to a winning team, but not a dominant team. Had he stayed in Cleveland or gone somewhere else Miami wouldn't have won a title during that time with the players that were there before he and Bosh. Durant signed with the Warriors after losing to the Warriors. The Heat didn't just get done winning a ring and 73 games without LeBron in the two years prior to him joining them. The Warriors did both of those things before Durant joined them. The Heat weren't unbeatable. They lost in the Finals twice. The Celtics and Pacers were extremely competitive with them. The Warriors with KD have yet to lose a series and have only won one series in more than 5 games. Last year, they swept the West and only lost one game in the whole playoffs. There's really no comparison. And then trying to compare LeBron going back to Cleveland to what Durant did is even more ridiculous. Between The Decision and The Return, the Cavs were an awful, dysfunctional organization that couldn't even sniff the playoffs. What Durant did by joining the Warriors is unprecedented. To be fair, Giancarlo Stanton going to the Yankees does not have the impact that Durant has. Could he knock 40 home runs and drive in 1000 runs? Yes, but it depends on more factors than Durant faces. It's the exact same ****ing thing. Stop making excuses to defend your binky. What LeBron did to Miami in 2014 was actually pretty pathetic. He coasted his way to two titles with that franchise, they built that entire roster around him and gave him everything he could have ever wanted (except firing Spoelstra in 2011 when LeBron was pouting about whatever), and then he left them high and dry just because he wanted a newer, younger set of teammates. How did he coast? Coasting suggests he didn't have to put in any effort. And since Bosh was breaking down already in 2014 he's supposed to stick around? The best players on that roster in Miami were old, not just Wade and Allen. Pat Riley didn't help either because he tried to come down hard on Lebron instead of trying to see what it would take to get him to stay longer. Check out this quote on Zach Lowe's ESPN profile posted earlier today: Quote If the shift to Golden State wasn't all about championships, at least some of it was about a late-20s adult seeking change -- an unpredictable offense that would stretch his skills, a roster where he didn't stand out. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying it. I just see a late-20s adult no longer interested in bearing the burden of a team on his shoulders. Now he's got his second ring, with people writing stories like this attempting to place him in league with Michael Jordan, all for his contributions on a team that's so good he can basically phone it in for several games and risk nothing.
