Star player gets tired of roughing it and not having championships gift-wrapped to him in his current city, so he blows town and goes to a team he thinks can win with while putting forth minimal effort. It's the exact same ****ing thing. Stop making excuses to defend your binky.

What LeBron did to Miami in 2014 was actually pretty pathetic. He coasted his way to two titles with that franchise, they built that entire roster around him and gave him everything he could have ever wanted (except firing Spoelstra in 2011 when LeBron was pouting about whatever), and then he left them high and dry just because he wanted a newer, younger set of teammates. He's like some slutty club girl working her way through sugar daddies.

Star player gets tired of roughing it with Mo Williams as his best teammate, so he helps form a better team elsewhere.

vs.

Star player gets tired of "roughing it" with superstar and future MVP Russell Westbrook as his best teammate, so he joins the 73-win team that he had just blown a 3-1 lead against in the playoffs.

Yeah, totally the same thing.

I won't even get into the idea that LeBron is somehow "pathetic" for both joining the Heat and leaving the Heat... or the misogynistic comparison you've come up with for it. It's obvious that you're just one of those bitter haters who will find a reason to criticize LeBron no matter what.

How did he coast? Coasting suggests he didn't have to put in any effort. And since Bosh was breaking down already in 2014 he's supposed to stick around? The best players on that roster in Miami were old, not just Wade and Allen. Pat Riley didn't help either because he tried to come down hard on Lebron instead of trying to see what it would take to get him to stay longer.

Oh no, the toys he recruited and made Miami move the earth to acquire were getting old! Better run out with your dick swinging and find a new sugar daddy. That's what the greats do, right?

Pat Riley came down hard on LeBron because he's the boss, not a lapdog who will bend over and grab his ankles for a player who thinks he's the second coming.

Getting taken to 7 games by the Celtics, Pacers and Spurs while Wade and/or Bosh get injured every year is "coasting."

Joining a 73-win team and only getting taken to more than 5 games once in two years is the "hardest road."

1 finals appearance in Cleveland (first stint) vs. 1 finals appearance in OKC. Yeah, totally the same thing.

You don't want to get into it because you have absolutely no way of refuting it.

Wait... are you seriously implying that Mo Williams and Russell Westbrook are the same caliber player? Mo Williams wasn't even on the 2007 Cavs team that made the Finals, by the way. LeBron's best teammate on that team was Zyndrunas Ilgauskas.

1 Finals appearance with Big Z is overachieving. 1 Finals appearance with Westbrook (and also James Harden for some of those years) is underachieving.

Here's the truth: you just wanted LeBron to stay in Cleveland, never get anything resembling a quality supporting cast, and never win a ring. You're mad that this didn't happen. It's as simple as that.

Hence the ghost edit.

You forgot the part where I light flaming bags of dog poop on his front yard and then retreat to my lair and laugh like Danny DeVito's Penguin character.

And plenty of context for why it's not the same. If LeBron had Westbrook and Harden on his team in his first stint in Cleveland, only made the Finals once, and didn't even win it despite being favored, he would be eviscerated by the media and fans. Especially if he followed it up by joining a 73-win team that he had just choked against in the playoffs.

That's Durant's real legacy in OKC, and he still has the media and fans making excuses for him.

1 finals appearance vs. 1 finals appearance. Everything else is conjecture.

That's why none of the people we're discussing is as good as Robert Horry.

You're literally treating basketball players like you'd treat tennis players.

LeBron left a hopeless situation.  A cold-weather, non-cosmopolitan city where no free agent wants to go.  So Kobe's better than LeBron because Shaq wanted more endorsements?

If LeBron wanted titles he had to move.  Durant took the Warriors to Game 7, lost to them, had the option to sign on for one more year and try to beat them.  Instead he took the easy way out.  Could you argue that LeBron decided to make it easier on himself?  Sure.  But how on earth could not argue that Durant did not.  Durant had an opportunity to get them back and instead he joined them.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Not only that, they had Al Horford ready to sign there if Durant decided to stay. The Thunder were going to be better than the team that was up 3-1 on the Warriors, and it still wasn't easy enough for Durant's liking.

66 wins in 2009, 61 wins in 2010, led the league both seasons. Doesn't seem that hopeless to me.

They both took the easy way out. That's kind of the point.

It's not fanfiction, it's Durant's actual career in OKC.

You inventing a scenario where LeBron plays with Russell Westbrook and James Harden and imagining the fallout if they lost is the very definition of fanfiction. Not that I have an issue with fanfiction, but don't try to spin that **** as truth.

Anyone who attacks Durant's decision to join Golden State but defends LeBron's decision to join Miami (and then Cleveland) is a hypocrite.

Anyone who attacks any player's decision to join any team is an idiot.  Every player is entitled to take the job that is most attractive to him, for whatever reason.

By the way, in England they have the opposite idiocy to the criticism of Durant.  Harry Kane just recently signed a contract extension with Tottenham.  And people are criticising him for not making himself available to join one of Europe's biggest clubs such as Barcelona or Real Madrid.

But there is plenty of nuance.  Even if you want to say that, it doesn't make them equivalent.

I'm not calling "The Decision" one of the great moments in NBA history.  But that does not make them the same; Durant took the easiest way out of any free agent in NBA history.

Just like I and everyone else is entitled to express what they think about that decision and criticize and question the motivations behind it (especially when there's a different reception to two or more identical decisions).
