Just for starters:

  • Hollywood High School Sheiks
  • Beverly Hills High School Normans
  • Culver City High School Centaurs
  • John Marshall High School Barristers

Can't say I've heard those used ANYWHERE else....  any others?

It is what it is.

Technically not in the LA Area, but the Coachella Valley is home to the CV Arabs and their rival Indio High School Rajahs. This is because of the dates that are grown here. A couple of years ago there was someone on the east coast who was offended by the CV mascot and as a compromise they changed their name to the "Mighty Arabs"

Pretty ironic, that one.

Not really. Getting into the weeds a bit here, but Jefferson is credited as a founding father of the Democratic party via his role in the creation of the Democratic-Republican Party. Prior to the middle of the 20th century the Democratic Party was the party of small government and states rights. The JFK and LBJ administrations effectively marked the end of the Democratic Party as the "Party of the South" (and by extension the party of "state's rights"). It's a gross oversimplification, but by the end of the 20th century the two parties had effectively switched places in terms of geography and attitudes towards central government.

Although I grew up just blocks away from Crenshaw High School (Cougars), I attended Los Angeles High only for my freshman year, and went to Palisades Charter HS my final three years of high school.  Palisades' mascot is the Dolphins; as far as I know, they may be the only high school in greater Los Angeles that uses that particular mascot.

Helen Bernstein High School in Hollywood, which was built on the old site of Metromedia Square/Fox Television Center (and former longtime home of KTTV Fox 11), has the Dragons as their mascot.

Yes, although in point of fact Jefferson’s party was called the “Republican Party”.  The whole “Democratic-Republican” thing is a modern invention designed to make it easier to tell the original party apart from the modern party of the same name.  Continuing the over-simplification, the modern Republican Party does share much with Jefferson’s Republican Party.  Yes, the two contemporary parties have traded places over the last century, but that has brought the two Republican Parties into something resembling historical alignment.

I know Jefferson is commonly credited as the father of the Democratic Party, but that still doesn’t mean it has make much sense. The Democratic Party wanted to tie itself to the spirit of Jefferson, so they claimed a connection.  They’re the Charlotte Hornets of the 19th Century. ?  Jefferson stood for almost everything the Democratic Party opposes today; white supremacy, a landed elite, agrarian society favored over urban, a weak federal government subordinate to the states.

But then again, the Federalist Society is exactly 180 degrees from everything the Federalist Party of Hamilton and Washington believed in, and they’d be pretty horrified to see what’s happened to their name. So its not like we don’t hold on to all manner of inaccurate if historical names.

When I was in high school in Milwaukee, I had a friend who went to Pius XI High School.  Home of the “Popes”.

Which meant that their girls teams were the “Lady Popes”.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Joan

Best passage:

Quote

Her sex was revealed when she gave birth during a procession, and she died shortly after, either through murder or natural causes. The accounts state that later church processions avoided this spot, and that the Vatican removed the female pope from its official lists and crafted a ritual to ensure that future popes were male.

oh ,my god ,i strong recommend you to have a visit on the website ,or if i'm the president ,i would have an barceque with the anthor of the articel .
