College Football 2018-19: Santa Clara is that a way.

So far, my Seminoles are looking pretty good down there in MIA...perhaps a good ol' fashioned rivalry game--and all the fisticuffs that inevitably come with it--is good for what's been ailing them. I am very pleased, indeed.

Now let's see if they can keep their collective foot on the throttle....

Joe Burrow is 10% better than the typical LSU QB. 6% better than Zach Mettenberger.

And Gators aren't good either.

I'd say they're reasonably good.  The defense is solid, the offense makes some timely plays.

If they end up at #16 or so, I'd say they're pretty fairly ranked.  I'm pretty thrilled either way because this felt like it could be a .500 season and now it looks like they should get to 9 wins, with a shot at 10.

Either way, that was a huge win (especially if you ignore LSU being overrated) on a big recruiting weekend.

 Wellp, there went that.

Tale of two halves. And (officially) two turnover chain appearances. And a key missed field goal, on both sides, a botched Home Run throwback (that one hurt), and some young Seminoles defensive backs who need to learn how and when to turn their heads and locate inbound footballs.

But credit to Miami though for fighting back and holding on. This is what rivalry games are all about. This one was close to being an instant classic, so although I obviously don't like the outcome, I can't even be mad about it. (Though I can and will question the offensive philosophy in the second half...why do so many option-offense coordinators keep thinking screens and jet sweeps are gonna work to get into field position to score, knowing the other team's defense keeps snuffing them out???)

Oh and...credit to them Gators, too. That'll shut the fellas on my wife's family's side up for a week. (They're all either from or were born in Louisiana; she and I are from Florida. She's a Gator girl; I'm a Seminole. And that is the only type of situation in which I'll root for them Swamp Thangs™.)

Texas is (probably) back for real this time. Though Charlie Strong also beat a top-10 Oklahoma team.

Wait until they play West Virginia. They win that and I'll agree they're back.

Notre Dame looks like, if they keep playing this way, they'll be going to a New Year's Day bowl.

I didn't watch FSU/Miami but you can probably just copy and paste that sentence every week.  His inability to make halftime adjustments is just about the stuff of legend at this point.

So Alabama won 65-31 to the Razorbacks, Nick Saben then goes on a rant throwing his Defense under the bus saying when the give up 31 points he doesn’t classify it as a win. Jesus he can think that and I’m sure all coaches try to go for a shut out but to go to the media with that has to cause some animosity from the defense.

It's typical Saban. His team could win 100-0 and he'd talk about something that they need to improve. Seems to work.

Part of me still expects that they'll lose to someone dumb like Baylor.

Grumpy Puss Nick Saban going away would be the best for all mankind.

Dude's the Bill Belichick of college football...in more ways than one. (Guess it makes sense since at one point since Saban served under Belichick on his coaching staff in Cleveland in the mid-'90s.)

Arizona played like :censored: and won because Cal played like worse :censored:.

I’ll take it. This is not a team that will be going bowling this year.

I almost think it's karma since Tate claims he chased of Niamatulola because he played the Wing T offense. Ironically, that's probably the best system for him. He's a good runner but not a passer.

This is also probably true for Arizona State. They need three more wins for bowl eligibility, and I only see two wins left, at best.

Tate’s also been playing injured.

I don't know what's crazier, the fact that Northwestern just beat Nebraska, the fact that they came back from 14 points down with 2:30 left in regulation to do it...or the fact that it's not an upset.

Turns out Georgia might not have been sleepwalking through an easy early schedule and really just aren't as good as everyone thought.  I still think they beat Florida in Jacksonville, but I think Florida can make a game of it.
