That was the last time Kansas football was good. Man, that felt like a generation ago. Now they're known as a punching bag... a blue and red punching bag that just got a shipment of fail.

To be fair, that was also the first time they were good in a very long time. Kansas football has typically been very bad.

I basically missed all of the opening weekend due to a camping trip (absolutely worthy sacrifice), but here are my takes on what I saw.

Herm’a tenure at ASU started promising, and that’s all I could’ve really hoped for. They played this same team a few years ago and damn near lost. It’s a tuneup game, but I’m glad to see them not unnecessarily turn it into a nail-biter.

Miami was damn disappointing. Mike Ryan Ruiz kinda deserves to get roasted for that one. Billy Gil, too. No chance anyone challenges Clemson in the ACC.

Maybe its it’s too soon and too reactionary, but Harbaugh at Michigan is looking like it’s headed toward disaster. That Irish team is NOT good and they were in control basically that whole game.

Good lord, if Tennessee’s run as a decent program, let alone a dominant one, wasn’t over before, it damn sure is now. I don’t see how that school ever recovers.

I'm starting to wonder the same thing about Texas.

Mangino was just 50-48 as he replaced Glen Mason who was 47-54-1. Ain't much better.

Plus after the 12-1 season, he went 13-12 over the next two years.

Ok, so even better than ASU not being completely embarrassing so far this season (that’s probably gonna change tonight) is just how surprisingly putrid U of A has been. Even for their standards, they’ve been miserable to watch. I love every second of it.

Four game parlay, all money lines. Duke over Northwestern, Houston over Arizona, Central Michigan over Kansas, and FAU over Air Force.

I literally thought CMU was the closest thing to a lock. It's effing Kansas. All three others hit and I lose the bet because damn Kansas finally figured out how to win a road game.

And if you're wondering, CMU was the favorite heading into the game.

I took Central Michigan too.  Before today, Kansas was 5-10-1 as a road underdog under Beaty.

Somewhere, sometime, Scott Frost had to be an honor student at the Andy Reid School of Clock Management.

Up 28-27 with 3:29, as his QB is injured and helped off, he has a 1st and 20. Vlock starts at the whistle.

1st Down snapped with :12 left on the play clock.
2nd Down snapped with :17 on the play clock.
Incomplete pass on 3rd and the punt.

Colorado scored a TD to take the lead.

Edit: Colorado wins.

I always love it when it’s a kitty loss!

In fairness to Dan Mullen, he doesn't have a particularly talented team (relatively, anyway).  McElwain recruited poorly and it's obvious.  The offensive line is a mess and he inherited a team with no real solution at QB.  Also, Florida got robbed of a FG.  That said, that sure felt like the kind of game we saw under the previous regime.  But Kentucky was better as they have been most of the last four or five years.

But man, how poorly coached the Gators were tonight.
