2018 NFL Season

Happy Festivus everyone! I have many grievances to air. Most are about the Bengals.

Went from First place near the beginning of the season to clinching last place in the AFC North.

Swept by the Browns. (Will likely be swept by the Steelers)

So many injuries at this point they would be better pulling fans from stands to suit up.

Hired Hue Jackson, have gone downhill ever since and if the miracle of Marvin getting fired happens, Hue will likely be named the new coach.

We still have Marvin Lewis as head coach who has zero playoff wins with the Bengals.

We are still owned by Mike Brown who like Marvin also has zero playoff wins with the Bengals since he took control in 1991.

They made it harder on themselves than it had to be, and it's too little, too late, but the Pack finally wins a road game.  Granted, it was over the effing Jets...but then losing to the Jets would have been shameful.  They're smelly.

Well the referees did it.  They completely made sure Houston came back.  Still wasn't as bad as the non-fumble-recovery, but completely unacceptable.  Even writers who are normally impartial (if anything, overly critical) have insinuated that something is up with the way this game was called.

Again - not being emotional or trolling, but the league is rigged.

While I definitely don't dispute or discount your points here, I'm at a loss as to why the league would want to weight anything in Houston's favor. It's not like they're a legacy franchise or anything, they're not exactly a national draw, and up until this year, they must have been the AFC "sleeper pick" for like 10 straight years without ever having done jack squat about it.  Or am I reading this whole thing backwards and the league is weighting/has been weighting games against Philadelphia? That actually might make some modicum of sense, especially if it helps boost both Dallas and NYG (except the Giants really ain't been too giant this season, so...)--you know, becsuse ratings and such...

Whatever the case, yeah, while I won't say all the officiating has been horrible this season, when it has been horrible, it's been excruciatingly horrible, dang near to the point of canceling out the fairly decent officiating.

OAN, Indy beating NYG plus Baltimore beating San Diego LA I believe all but guarantees the Snatit misses the postseason. It's their own fault for waiting 14 freaking weeks into the season to discover some sense of a consistent offensive identity. (Okay, it's a combo of Matt LaFleur forgetting he has a 6'3" near-250-lb running back on the squad, said 6'3" near-250-lb running back doing too much dancing and not hitting holes decisively as he has been in recent weeks, and probably both LaFleur and Vrabel finally realizing the Patriot Way™ doesn't really work outside New Englan--oh, and Mariota's inconsistency at QB, which as much as I admire his toughness and heart as a player and a person, has been maddeningly irritating to watch.)

Unrelated rant: them uniforms gotta go. I've tried every way I can to find something to like about them all season long...I can't even do it.

And for the first time in 20+ years I will be rooting for my Browns to lose next week.

Some dedicated hatred right there. Not sure I'd ever root against the Steelers in any circumstance (except for maybe drafting #1 overall).

Disappointing loss in which the Saints won it (clutch 3 and 20 conversion), we lost it (horrible fake punt call), and sprinkled with a bit of poor reffing (that Haden interference in the 1st quarter was an awful call, and it absolutely had an impact on the game because the Saints scored on the next play). In the end this loss is mostly devastating due to the fact that we lost three straight after winning 6 straight. Sucks.

Well now I get to root for any team against NE... again. I can't bring myself to root for Cleveland next week.

No.

Tebow was overrated by the coach who had the power to draft him...Josh McDaniels.

Nope, Tebow was overrated. If you were to go to any church in the US in 2011, the pastor could breath the first syllable of Tebow's name and the women would faint and the men would cheer. Even after the Steelers lost to the Broncos in the playoffs, half my friends were rooting for the Broncos because of Tebow.

I'm sure there were plenty of media talking heads talking about how all Tebow does is win, but I think most of the support came from randos out in the world. People who didn't really watch football would argue with me about how great Tebow was, just because I wanted the Broncos to have a real quarterback.

I also remember how insane that draft pick was. I wasn't watching the draft but my phone erupted with texts and phone calls from people wanting my opinion on the Tebow pick. I believe the first person to call asked me, "Are you watching this bull****?" So that was a fun time.

I don't see the incentive to work an entire season against Philadelphia, so I don't think that's it.  Individual games?  Yes - I absolutely do.  I absolutely think that they tilt games in favor of / against other teams too, not just the Eagles.  It's just that the absolute worst calls I've ever seen in games I've watched - calls that were so wrong they had to be intentional - were this season and in situations where nearly all - if not all - the calls went one way.  Even jesus-loving-meditator-calm dude Nick Foles was about to strangle a ref today. They did everything they could, short of making up rules ("offsides - defense.  Because the player that jumped offsides is wearing an odd jersey number, the result of the play is a touchdown for houston.") to have Houston make the comeback and win.

I don't know how it benefits anyone right now for Houston to have won.  That part - and it's an important part - doesn't compute.  I almost wonder if sportsbooks have anything to do with it?  Or if they're working with the refs directly?  Nobody is going to buy a player, but refs can be bought pretty easily.

So why is Foles not the starter in Philly again?

For the same reason only one other team wanted him in the offseason, and the only team that allegedly did just happens to be one of - if not the dumbest teams in the history of sports (Phoenix, who signed Sam LOL Bradford for $20M.)

When he's confident and gets on a roll, and when the offense is worked around him, he's great.  But when things start going wrong or he's up against a killer defense or just has to play more than a small sample of games, he's exposed for being an average... maybe a little above average QB.  There are more than a few examples of him stinking up the joint.

As bad as Wentz was this season (it's funny to talk about how bad he was when you look at his numbers, but numbers don't always tell the story) he was far from the reason they're where they are now, and his upside is as high as anyone's right now.
