Glad to see Buffalo is getting a team again, I personally hope they go back to Lakers, but the Buffalo Buffalo is almost too good.

Pekka Rinne is too good. Buffalo Buffalo is hilarious.

1959-60 Driveball Offseason Part 5

DRIVEBALL BACK IN BUFFALO FOR '61!

The Knox family's bid to bring the quirky sport of Driveball back to Western New York was approved unanimously by the National Driveball Alliance's owners. The former Lakers franchise called Buffalo home from 1948 until 1957. After 10 seasons, the Lakers were sold to Anheuser-Busch. That led to the beer giant controversially moving the club to its home base in St Louis, where they now compete as the Showboats. It is unclear if whether the new Buffalo franchise will rehash the old Lakers' name, but whatever they are called, they will begin play in the spring of 1961. What we do know is that the new NDA club will share the Lakers' former home, the Rockpile, with the baseball Bisons and the football Bills.

- The Buffalo News

DRIVEBALL COMES TO THE EAST BAY!

The five year old San Francisco Dragons of the Continental Driveball Alliance will have plenty of company almost 20 months from now. The board of directors of East Bay Driveball, Inc announced with great enthusiasm that their bid for an expansion franchise was approved 8-2 by the owners of the older National Driveball Alliance. The new franchise will share Oaks Park with the PCL Oaks starting in the spring and summer of 1961.

- The Oakland Tribune

It would be interesting if the new Buffalo NDA franchise resurrected the Lakers name.

Also, will the Oakland NDA team eventually move in to the Oakland Coliseum with the AFL Raiders (and the baseball Oaks should the PCL become a major league) sometime in the future?

My votes go to the Lakers and the Squirrels

I see the Squirrels like the Unicorns, the Flamingos and even something like the Dolphins..it's a silly name yes but it works in a certain way

I'd put a little bit more focus on the green for the squirrels (maybe make the outline thicker), but it looks good for 1961.

And I personally prefer the rougher hind legs of the first of the two '61 Buffalo Lakers logos, but that is just nitpicking.

While it is still 1960, the Squirrels and Lakers couldn't wait to unveil their uniforms:

I might have the Squirrels share Frank Youell Field with the Raiders before the Coliseum is built.

In the meantime, the Squirrels have a choice of four different temporary homes:

- Memorial Stadium in Berkeley

- Kezar Stadium or Candlestick Park, both in San Francisco

- Oaks Park in Emeryville

Those Squirrels uniforms look pretty good, but I think the squirrel’s head is too small.

I'll try to remember that the next time I update the Oakland look. Thanks.

This is just an idea but maybe in the 70s, the Squirrels could use their "Tail Swirl" on the jersey's shoulders almost like the LA Rams did in the same era?

That looks better than the first squirrel look. I like the edit.
