2018-19 NBA Season

One of Ginobli's greatest accomplishments -- and there were many -- was his leadership of that 2004 Olympic basketball team. No one thought the US would ever be beaten at basketball again, and Argentina did it. Pretty amazing.

The Fiserv.Forum, yes that is how they are spelling it, officially opened to the public this past Sunday. And of course this guy was in attendance. It totally met my expectations and exceeds them. I can't wait to see the Bucks hit that floor. What's weird is that they didn't have the new floor laid down, instead the went with the city pride one they use when they wear the black alts. Other than that they did a really great job on the place, it has all the bells and whistles. The scoreboard is huge, and they have tons of led boards around the arena bowl. The club levels are posh, and almost don't make you feel like you are in Milwaukee, and I say that as a guy that absolutely loves his hometown. The windows that face east really capture the skyline of downtown. The concourses are open all the way around, and some concession stands are right at the top of the stairs so you can literally watch the action while waiting for your beer.

Clyde Frazier appears to be writing the foreword to "Stugotz's Personal Record Book".

Quote

Durant, as great a player he is, I would still hold back (giving him credit) because he joined a team that really didn’t need him,” the Knicks legend told SiriusXM NBA Radio on Tuesday. “He’s right there with LeBron, probably would’ve surpassed LeBron as the best player in the game soon, but for him doing that I still don’t give him the full credit that he probably would’ve deserved if he stayed in OKC and won a title with that team.”

“He’s going to be down the list for me because of that. There will be an asterisk next to his name.”

I used to work for a media company back then for my first ever job and I watched basically every single one of those 2004 games to report on them. I’ve NEVER seen a guy do in Olympic basketball what Manu did that year. I mean he absolutey victimized the USA. I remember thinking that USA basketball was in serious trouble if this is what the world is going to feature from here on out. Seeing just how dominant USA hoops has been since then makes that performance all the more incredible.

Ryan Anderson, Melton traded to PHX for Chriss and Knight.

Interesting move. I can see Anderson doing something more in Phoenix than he did in Houston especially alongside Ayton. That should free the big up down low with Anderson able to pop threes. But, really how much does he have left?

With Houston, I don't see much coming from Chriss -- he's a bust. I wouldn't be surprised if they waived him before the end of the year. Brandon Knight is a solid pickup. Sure he's coming off an injury, but as a backup to CP3 and Gordon he's going to he solid.

Will that be enough to get past the Warriors?

No.

The "one two three four five Sixers" are going to have a coach-GM this year, as they've decided that it's better to focus on finding an "elite" GM rather than just hiring someone because you need a GM.  They're just going to have a few guys doing scouting and drawing up contracts, while Brett Brown will be the coach and GM, technically retaining the "interim" title for now.

LOL

The Lakers have finally agreed on a buyout with Luol Deng, giving them a max slot -- and another opportunity to be jilted by tier 1 free agent not named LeBron -- for 2019.

The Lakers will get someone 'worthy' of that max slot.  Just watch.  LeBron is going to break someone off with some of his Nike/budding media empire millions under the table.

So after missing out of the Turasi/Bird battle, I bought tickets to Friday's WNBA Finale game 1.

KD

Kyrie

Kawhi

Jimmy Butler

Klay Thompson

Those are your top 5 FAs. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I can't see KD or Kyrie heading to LA. Kawhi of course, but is he really a complimentary piece for the Lakers? Same with Jimmy. Klay is my darkhorse, he decides to leave GS, I think he'd be a great piece beside LeBron because of his shooting.

Anyways, don't want to make this a 2019 speculation thread, but Summer 2019 could get crazy, especially the RFAs.

I can't see the true game-changing RFAs changing teams unless some crazy ish happens (Towns, Porzingis), but I'm rooting for complete chaos.  I would love for KD and Klay to leave Oakland.  I would love for Kyrie and Jimmy Butler to join forces wherever (maybe the Knicks or Nets).  Also, I'm really interested in seeing this supposed change in LeBron's game.  Will he be as ball dominant with 2-3 other good to great ball handlers on the court with him at any given time?  While he may not be the easiest dude to play with, I think he still makes the players around him better.  He knows he can't do it all by himself anymore, so I have to think he's going to be able to convince someone to come to LA with him to be that missing piece.  With seemingly half of the team on 1-year deals, massive change is guaranteed either way.  Should be fun.

Shout out to Doris Burke receiving the Curt Goudy Award from the Basketball Hall. Now, her prep highlights...

Note: TNT's David Aldridge was a previous Goudy honoree, so to him, "La Cheeserie!"

Update -- it was fun! The game started at 6 p.m. and was over by 7:58 p.m. (I checked). Dejounte Murray, Kam Chancellor, Jamal Crawford and Macklemore were in attendance. 10-minute quarters are great.

And most important, the Seattle Storm are really, really good. They play Warriors-esque smart basketball, constantly moving the ball around for the best shot. It was pretty exciting to watch and the Storm ran away with the game. Tickets were $40 each with fees, which is $10 more than I would have liked to have paid, but was still a good value.

Overall, the WNBA Finals were good fun. It it comes to game 5 (it won't), I'll go again.

Honestly,  I think they're the 4th best team in the East as far as a 7 game series goes. Boston, Philly and quite possibly Milwaukee could take them in 7.
