This will be interesting considering New Era hasn't made uniforms before.

“This is the first time New Era Cap will charge onto the football field providing uniforms and sideline apparel in addition to our line of fan gear and headwear that blends sports with lifestyle,” said Dave Heimburg, Vice President & General Manager North America, New Era Apparel.

Currently the league uses Adidas and has since 2015 (when they took over from Reebok) but Adidas informed the league they weren't going to continue the deal after it expired at the end of this season.

So we're more than likely getting another jersey overhaul. Very interested in what New Era can do. I have a Winnipeg Goldeyes shirt made by New Era, but I can't think of anything else they've made aside from hats.

I have an Angels sweater made by New Era which I like, but remember thinking it was weird that it was by New Era when I bought it.

I wasn’t aware they ever made anything aside from hats.

But I doubt they will start now.  More likely they will be designing the uniforms and then contracting them out to another manufacturer to actually produce with the NE flag logo on it.  Much as Ripon did for Nike, Reebok, Starter, and the like for all those years.

New Era has definitely made some licensed apparel before, t-shirts and the like: https://www.mlbshop.com/los-angeles-dodgers/mens-los-angeles-dodgers-new-era-white/royal-slub-crew-neck-t-shirt-with-contrast-sleeves/t-36550955+p-8047604696573+z-9-1251421342

Assuming though that it's just the same as some other small brand, like a Majestic Threads or something.

Correct.  They're basically just paying to have their logo displayed on the uniforms, proving yet again, that the "manufacturer's mark" is just an ad.

Does New Era even have an "original" design team?  Most (if not all) of their "original" designs are actually done by whoever the teams / leagues pay to design the uniforms, and NE simply produces the cap part of it.  They obviously have in-house designers that do the "mashup" or color-swap or other designs that utilize licensed logos, but AFAIK they don't actually "design" uniforms / logos.

They may end up outsourcing the whole thing - design and all.

While we know them best for making the on-field products, they do have lots of other products that I would assume aren't directly designed by the teams. They have a design assistant job up on their website right now, also.

Quote
The role of the Design Assistant is to support Design Team production art needs during program and custom product development.
Responsibilities
* Works closely with Design Managers and Sr. Designers in building prototype tech packs for all custom design sessions, seasonal program product and New Era retail custom product

* Effectively communicates with Global Sourcing team for prototype tech pack needs and revisions
* Reviews prototype samples against tech packs for production accuracy
* Creates seasonal logo instruction templates for designing team/league logos
* Effectively processes approved custom artwork for digitizing process through Job Tracker software
* Ability to replicate a specific design across multiple teams/non-licensed designs for GCP programs
* Understand and utilize ROAL to search custom GCP program designs
* Creates and maintains templates for production of seasonal prototype needs
* When needed redraw customer logo/artwork from pre-existing non-vector artwork

I have a few New Era shirts and they’re all of really good quality. Not sure they can translate that considering the high level of production they’ll need for a project like this (I also assume they’ll contract out the work), but I’m interested to see what they can do.

Oh, and I’ll take a few CFL caps, too. American (or, Canadian) made polyester, please.
