Having two pink teams in Miami can work if the Marlins keep the pink as the third/accent color, which i think they will. No pink jerseys or caps, keep those blue or black along with the regular white and gray and it works. Based on the balance of colors a pink and black team can look different enough from a blue black and pink team.

Steelers and Pirates make black and yellow work

Give me that logo on a black cap with a pink bill for home games/black bill for road games, pink alternate cap and blue alternate cap plus white, gray, black, pink and blue jersey options. It would make for one of the most unique identities in sports and perfectly encapsulate Miami.

Would love to see the Heat adopt the Miami Vice colors full time, too. I think the Dolphins could pull it off, as well, but too much history there to try and make Miami a one-color pallette city like Pittsburgh.

YES YES YES Fuchsia and blue errrythang!

Anyone else being reminded of this 2017 ASG concept that was so well received? Definitely looks like they're going for the same night time neon theme by having it black on black...

OMG How did I miss those??? Nice

Edit: damn, it's just a concept.

I think for some it's nostalgia for the original name, but I feel like there could be an opportunity there for either the Marlins or Rays to establish themselves as Florida's baseball team, though. Do either the Marlins or Rays have many fans in decently-sized metros Orlando or Jacksonville? Would calling themselves the Florida Marlins or Florida Rays help expand their reach? I don't really know, but it's something to consider.

You can't really claim you represent the entire state when there's another team playing in said state.

The only reason I ever preferred “Florida Marlins” over “Miami Marlins” was purely that it just sounds better phonetically to me. The former just sorta flows, whereas the latter sounds kinda choppy. And I just think “Florida” is a really pleasant name on its own.

That said though, I totally get the switch to “Miami” and am starting to get used to it now, so I don’t mind them sticking to it.

To me the alliteration of the "Miami Marlins" name works.

Florida is a diverse state, and so claiming you represent all of it can be tricky for any number of reasons. Meanwhile "Miami" means something a bit more specific and culturally relevant.

I’m cool if the Marlins want to use black as their primary color. The idea of the Marlins in blue and orange/pink sounds cool, but black has been the base color for their set basically their entire existence (minus the first year or two) and has survived a color change already. May as well keep that trend up I guess.

Is this gonna be another black dominated set?

They might but gotta wait and see. I'm not convinced they'll continue that trend since there are enough new factors involved this time around. New uniforms, new players, and new owners means the players could want to wear the more colorful stuff more and ownership might even force them to wear everything as well.

This is assuming there is more colorful stuff to begin with.

Definitely. As I'm sure you know, once you drive north of about Port Saint Lucie, you're out of South Florida and into what can be called Florida Man Florida. And that's not even getting into the panhandle, which is all pines and live oaks and quite frankly a little spooky. Or Pensacola, which is Alabama but no one's had the heart to tell them. Miami-Dade/Broward/Palm Beach Counties are really a world unto themselves.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Even Palm Beach and Miami-Dade are drastically different. Miami Marlins is culturally appropriate with significant historical precedent. There is a significant group that grew up between 1965 and 1985 that grew up watching baseball games at Miami Stadium.

Sure you can.  Doesn't mean you do represent the state, but if you're struggling some in your home market, and the other team(s) in the state each have exclusively local fanbases, then why not try to market yourself to the whole state as the "main team" in the state, and implicitly put yourself above those other "small time local teams"?  It's just marketing.

Check out the colors in this pic of the Miami skyline at night... some black some tealish light blue some pink and all in a fairly dark on dark setting... it's like the the logo jumped out this picture

This color scheme has sooo much potential and now I'm loving that it's not JUST of an outdated and cliched 80s TV show. This could really work with the proper execution...

I mean you can, it'll just be silly :P

The colors in that photo have been heavily edited.
