Is it wrong that I liked both of these posts?

Seeing these in “action,” they really need a front number. Wouldn’t mind if the wordmark was primarily blue instead of black, either.

In that video I find it interesting that the color pops the most in the New Era cap logo, presumably because it has the greatest density. A blue wordmark has to be inevitable down the road.

Lastly, the team store... just wow. When you walk in there with all the new merchandise and the signage the new color scheme looks so gorgeous. I didn't hate the old orange but this light blue fits so much better and has a very cool and vibrant feel as opposed to the orange that was more bright for the sake of being loud and just eventually came off as gaudy.

They could have played up the blue and played down the orange without giving up on the entire identity.

They had to give up on the 2012-2018 identity. It was soaked in the stench of Loria and the fanbase never accepted orange being part of the color scheme at all.

I think giving up on the entire entity was the right choice, though.  And I loved the blue Boyz 2 Men jerseys.

I’m not convinced that they replaced it with anything better. Seems like a slight downgrade across the board.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, then.  I love the cap, and if I was ever to buy the cap of a team I didn’t support, this would be it.

Hell, just getting rid of the toothpaste fish makes this an incredible upgrade by itself.

The hat is awful, off the top of my head it's the worst monogram in the majors.

Same. I don't typically wear merchandise of other teams but if I ever find myself in Miami at a Marlins game, I'm 100% picking a hat up. The former identity itself kept me away to begin with, now I would actually like to go see them in action.

The polarity of opinions surrounding the rebranding is really quite striking. It's just a reminder of how subjective design can be. Obviously there's rarely a consensus on other team brandings too.

For those who like or approve of the new look, do any of you think that an injection of more color (particularly blue) in the logos, caps, and wordmarks would NOT be a noticeable improvement?

Lastly, park renovations look good but were so unfinished it was a bit of a let down as so much of it was just bare bones construction. Of course the target to finish is opening day but it would have been nice to show it off at fan fest. And new Billy the Marlin is a disaster. Super downgrade no ifs ands or buts. They tried to make him more kid friendly but failed miserably.

I saw a quick boomerang style video if him on Instagram, what the schmuck did they do to his mouth

For starters, I absolutely LOVE the new look of the Marlins as-is. To answer your question, I honestly don’t think more blue would be better. The way everything is right now, it’s a perfect way of giving the look of a neon-sign vibe. Really the only changes I’d make would be to add the stripes from the sleeves to the collar and maybe add a cap with a blue bill

You're assuming the color balance was the only thing wrong with that identity.

I do think more blue would be better but after months of looking at this entire rebrand I'm not convinced it'll happen because the look they have now is a better representation of what they were trying to do. So many times "we" just want what we think looks better (which is a natural reaction) but we also forget that the people who make those decisions also have a different image or theme or vision in mind that would go against what we think would look better.

Long story short: we like more blue, the Marlins don't. And if you want more blue there's a ton of blue heavy merchandise for fans to buy.

Even the Yankees have a similar thing where their uniforms are not heavy on navy blue but you can buy a ton of navy blue merchandise as a fan.

Rounder face and features, looks more like a chubby cartoon baby version of Billy. I'm particularly annoyed by the bottom the head cutting off at an almost horizontal line as opposed to the rounder head that tapered towards the jersey as if he actually had a more realistic looking neck. Also super bothered by him having the wrong logo on the cap. Why have a different logo than the actual team cap and to boot it's an incorrectly colored logo. He also has shoes now instead of fins. Bad all around. I think he was changed for the sake of changing him. Billy was one of the things that was perfectly fine, all they had to do was recolor him.

Umm... huh? Navy blue (and some white) is the only color their uniforms are heavy on.

I agree, love the look! I think they just need to thicken the color outlines on the jersey and the hat logo and they’ll be set.

They don't have navy blue Yankee jerseys (during the regular season)... yet fans can buy navy blue Yankee shirts, that's what I mean. The fanbase in their fashion merchandise can be more heavily outfitted in one color, while the team can wear that color less.

Here's the team mostly in white:Related image

Here's the fans mostly in navy:Image result for yankee fans

Marlins fans can do the same in their light blue.

Their team color is Navy. So that's what the merchandise is going to predominantly be. That's like saying the Cardinals don't have a red jersey, but you  can buy merchandise in red anyway. Or the Dodgers and blue. In baseball, not everybody has colored alternates, and home/aways are neutral white/gray, so you can't go by the color of the jerseys when determining the dominant color in which the merchandise is going to be produced. A better example would've been like the Giants who are predominantly black, but you can find orange merchandise. Or the A's with green/yellow. Mariners navy/teal. Tigers navy/orange.
