Wait until America becomes one giant dystopian Las Vegas.

Massive waste of resources? An entire economy based around paying people very little to accommodate the ultra wealthy? Poorly planned transportation system? Fattening foods and chains as far as you can see?

Not sure about your "until" there.

I know that there are municipalities that like the idea of baseball, but I can't imagine any North American city (even Montreal?) paying for a new baseball stadium. In 2018 I feel like we're all smarter than building single-use stadiums for a sport that has evolved into four teams competing against the rest aggressively not.

I was being optimistic. Lol.

I totally agree that any city shouldn't fork over taxpayer to build stadiums for the ultra wealthy and Mark Davis.

We have.

Look, the Angels aren’t moving to LA proper. There’s no space and no one willing. I actually think it could be kind of detrimental considering that large majority of the fan base they’ve built is to the South (OC) and to the East (Riverside) of DTLA. And I’ll guarantee the majority of those people aren’t driving up to LA for 81 games a year.

The City of Industry/Grand Crossing idea is interesting, but that 57/60 interchange is its own special kind of hell without something actually going on there. Elsewhere in the IE would be interesting too, but again, you start to alienate the core of Angel fans that currently exist in OC. Taking the 91 out of OC at 5 pm any day of the week again is a special kind of hell.

The only in-OC/non-Anaheim option that was ever sort of seriously pursued was Tustin. Which I mean there’s space to do it and it’s actually closer to where I live, however, Tustin also isn’t coughing up any public dollars and putting a professional stadium in Tustin is... weird. Just weird. You’re really getting into suburbia at that point. And if anything, it’d give them even less claim to “Los Angeles” than they already have.

So, it’s Anaheim or bust, I think. I probably overreacted in the first post because I was kind of seeing red, no pun intended. Something will get worked out. Whether it’s upgrades or building in the parking lot, something will happen.

But if not, really, kick rocks Arte. It’d be one way to kill the baseball in this sports fan.

We could turn the US into Macau - an entire country(ish place) of casinos.

So to recap...

The Mariners are squawking about their corporately whored stadium.

The Diamondbacks want out of their corporately whored stadium.

The Rays want out of their corporately whored stadium, and now

The Angels want out of their stadium that's so old they can't whore it.

So let's move 'em around...

Los Angeles gets the Rays.

Tampa gets the Mariners.

Arizona gets the Angels.

Seattle gets the Diamondbacks.

Just for the lulz.

Oh yeah. With the Mouse on the prowl for any and all open Anaheim land, they would swoop in instantaneously and knock it all down should the property become available. I have no doubts on that.

Is Mayor Tait running for another term or is his time up? I heard he's putting up some fights against Disney, especially over the proposed hotel that was recently shelved.

Needs more of the following, and only then will it be considered:

The CCSLC's resident Geelong Cats fan.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Sounds like something from a Rocky & Bullwinkle story arc.

No, he's up. Which is partially why the Angels opted out now and said they'll negotiate next month with the new mayor and council.

Also, low key info, Disney kind of wanted out of that hotel anyway. They weren't that mad about having to cancel the project.

Because the New York and Los Angeles markets are large enough that they can handle two teams. Thats why MLB, NFL, MLS, NBA have two clubs for those markets. The NHL has three in the New York market, which I honestly think is overkill but its working. Southern California has the Dodgers, and Angels  and even the Padres about 2 and half hours away in San Diego. Putting a fourth club in SoCal would be oversaturation of the market. There are also other markets in the US and Canada that deserve and could support a MLB club than adding a third club to Los Angeles.

The issue with Los Angeles in the NFL is that nobody in LA wanted the Chargers. They have embraced the Rams as they previously played in the market for years and they wanted the Raiders to return. Had the Raiders moved to LA instead of the Chargers both clubs would have thrived in LA and we could have seen the Chargers either stay in San Diego or head for Las Vegas.

Let me make it clear that I don't actually want three LA area teams.  I'm just realistic about what sports business has become, especially in regards to the LA market.  Where the Clippers are profitable just by being a Staples Center tenant even though they're a pop culture punchline, and the Chargers forced their way in regardless of any demand or accommodations for them.

Oddly enough, the Clippers are leaving Staples Center soon enough for their own arena. (Similar to the days before the Staples Center). When this is happening, I don't know.
