Best move they’ve made in a long time. I hope he never pitches in the bigs again. I mean, he won’t, because he sucks. But I’m liking this new GM already.

Gorkys is sad but he wasn’t that good so meh. Pence is totally understandable, but, 🙁

*sigh*

Is it too much to ask for a winner right now?

Not when Jerry Dipoto is involved. He presents the most serious challenge to the phrase "you can't trade everyone."

Mariners are clearly in rebuild mode as they probably should be. That 89 win season was a smoke and mirror job if there ever was one, and they are nowhere close to being as good as Houston.

But it's not like Seattle has any pieces that any team would bend over backward to get either aside from maybe Diaz who they just sent to the Mets.

I get dealing away Paxton and Segura as I view both players as being replaceable. Cano would have made for excellent trade bait if not for that contract. It was why Seattle had to throw in Diaz and some money for anyone to take Cano.

I don't see anything particularly great or horrible in what Seattle is doing, but to move what is effectively 1/5th of the roster from last year in a matter of a week seems like an awful lot to absorb at once. When you make that many moves at once, they tend to all cancel themselves out in the end.

I view Dipoto as a solid GM, but there are some active fantasy players don't make as many moves as he does. Its hard to do that and not find yourself in situations where your working against trades you just made a year or two prior. That's what just happened with Jean Segura. They dealt prospects to get Segura just to turn around two years later and deal him for other prospects. They would have been better off just holding onto Marte and Walker at this point.

His constant tinkering is what holds him back from being on that Epstein/Anthopoulos/Cashman level of executive.

None of them were saddled with a 10+ year playoff drought that looks like it could reach 20 years with this baloney.

Cleveland was. Trust me, after 1987 I didn't think Cleveland would ever make the playoffs. I'm still certain we would have won in 1994 if not for the strike.

Ohmygods. Seattle took on Carlos Santana’s contract - the Phillies are paying none of it. They also took one of the most disappointing prospects I can remember in JP Crawford.

This lets the Phillies move Rhys Hoskins to first, and adds money that they can offer the other FAs.

Apparently, the Mariners asked the Phillies to "throw in" one of their top-2 pitching prospects, and the result was actually them adding a couple of prospects to the deal.

I've never heard of this guy, but by all accounts he seems real good - the only thing is that Machado said he wants to sign as a SS and that would factor into his decision, so this seems to eliminate that possibility.

The offseason doesn't really begin until we get some Photoshops!

The last guy looks more like a cartel enforcer than a ballplayer.

Patrick Corbin to the Nats.

Woah. That’s a really good move, and this probably makes that rotation one of, if not the best, starting staff in baseball. It’s the best 1-2-3 in baseball at least, IMO. I’m assuming that may be the end of their Harper pursuit, but that may be a good thing.

Can we get over the heartfelt goodbyes that players leave for their former teams when they are traded/leave as a FA?  Between the full-page ads, and long social-media statements, it's getting ridulous.

This is Carlos Santana saying goodbye to Philadelphia.  He played ONE season, and NOBODY cared when they got him, NOBODY even wanted him, and NOBODY particually cared about him while he was here - for ONE season.  EVERYBODY wanted him and his contract gone... after his ONE season.

Did he also take out a full page ad in the Philadelphia Daily News?

Not sure.  Even posting a Twitter/IG was overkill.  A Daily News ad would have been flat-out laughable.

It's almost like he was meant to be a Cardinal.

If there’s any player out there who fits the Cardinals mold like an absolute glove, it’s Goldy. I said it a page or so ago, but he’s the ultimate safe (boring) white dude. Cares about absolutey nothing other than baseball and it reflects with his play on the field. You’re never gonna get a controversial quote out of that guy, let alone any type of scandal. All you’re going to get is pure production.

The only guy who may be more white and boring in baseball is Buster Posey.

The only thing that'd make it more perfect is if his name was Matt #BASS
