MLS Kits 2019

EDIT: Nevermind! This was already posted. Nothing to see here, folks.

I will say this, though. A lot of what people feel is a “cop out” is probably out of the control of the club. I face these same issues with our uniform supplier (Nike, for now) and the fact that short turnaround windows can be an absolute nightmare. What you have to realize is that soccer clubs in the US, even at the MLS level, are run on somewhat of a shoestring budget. This is out of necessity. There is a lot that simply has to come before the design production process. Cincinnati’s case is special, in that they went so quickly from the USL model to the MLS model. Even with the general anticipation they may have had, it still creates some complications. I can’t say exactly for sure, but knowing some of the ins and outs of what they do, they probably don’t have a huge staff on hand that focuses solely on production work. For my particular club, they have one guy (me) who makes every single piece of uniform/jersey/kit all the way from the goalie kits down to the kids sized jerseys they sell to fans. Most of these clubs get blank shirts from their manufacturer and they add the badge, sponsor logo, numbers/name, and league patch in house. It’s a TON of work, but that’s how the team keeps some level of control over what they have to offer.

I’m not at all surprised this was the result of the FCC promotion, and all things considered, they’re doing awesome with the hurdles they had to overcome.

That’s odd.  FCC will have two one-year jerseys, and then introduce two new jerseys next year, one of which will also be a one-year jersey.  What exactly is the point of that?

I would imagine that the club realizes that the noticeably lower-quality jerseys of this year are best disposed of as quickly as possible?

I was surprised minnesota kept their initial away whites for an additional season.

Here’s a couple more good looks at the full Dallas secondary:

As well as their infographic for the jersey:

Also, according to FCD’s press release on the new kit (link below) there will actually be blue shorts in addition to the white. Here’s what the article says: “The white jersey will be paired with blue shorts and white shorts throughout the season.” I’m sure the white shorts will probably be used more often, but here’s hoping we see a healthy dose of the white/blue/white combo.

So the only part of the design that draws inspiration from Reunion tower in a jersey named the Reunion jersey is... a barely noticeable pattern in a memorial patch?

In the hidden camera video shtick Dallas did, when the real jerseys got pulled out you could tell even then the players reactions were underwhelming.

The kit isn't bad, it's clean, whatever.  But these definitely aren't worthy of a big reveal or anything like that.  A one sentence tweet would have worked

They were “authentic” in the sense that they were worn on-field, but certainly of replica quality and not adidas’ top tier offering. They featured an old teamwear template with sewn adidas logos versus printed, basic materials versus the adizero mesh back panels, the same crest application as Cincinnati versus plastic heat transferred crest, among other things. Minnesota did a better job than Cincinnati, in my opinion, but both were teamwear patchwork jobs unlike the typical adidas creation process.

Right. Just was saying more that the quality was more replica, but they sold them at authentic pricing. So in that sense I like what FCC is doing better simply because they are admitting that these aren't worth the authentic price and are replica value. There's lots of Twitter outrage amongst some of the vocal Minnesota fanbase minority about it (although it's the same minority that has been freaking out about everything this past year and it's quite humorous at this point). But as someone who owns both Minnesota gray authentic jerseys, the 2018 version is clearly worth it, while the 2017 version I feel ripped off on that they charged me full authentic pricing when the quality is clearly that of the replica.

San Jose will be unveiling their new primary later today, but a close up view of one of their recent teasers shows that the blue color blocking is made up of their fault line pattern:

You can see the detail of the pattern here:

And once again, the full kit will likely look like this, but of course with the pattern in the blue color blocking:

San Jose primary officially revealed:

I’d call this a pretty big step down for them, in large part due to the fact that it isn’t nearly as distinctive as their last home kit (last two home kits, really). I also don’t like that the shirt is basically the Regista template with the color blocking shifted down and the Adidas stripes moved to the shoulders. And as an aside, I still really don’t understand why they went away from the blue/black/blue primary kit combo. The all-black with blue accents just isn’t nearly as appealing as the blue/black/blue.

It's not *awful* but I was pretty big on their last primary kit with the fade-up stripes so pretty disappointing.

Also, what's the deal with the no sponsor? Did I miss that they weren't having one this year?

Apparently they no longer have their jersey sponsorship deal with Sutter Health. I assume they’re either searching for a new partner or are negotiating a sponsorship renewal with Sutter.

This is exactly what I’ve been complaining about! And that SJ blue is such a lovely shade too. Sigh. Their last primary also had the mistake of too black, but the stripes were more interesting than this.

and what’s with the socks?

I would bet money that considering the kits have been released and are up for sale they were trying to lock something down and just couldn't make it happen, like with Houston last year.

Honestly, Avaya would not look bad as a kit sponsor. Or any of the tech companies really.

Assuming you’re talking about the socks in that image from @MLS, those aren’t the ones that’ll be worn with the kit, thankfully. The league used those generic socks for several of the images of the new jerseys hanging in the lockers:

As for the actual socks of the new kit, you can see them here in this screenshot from their reveal video:

This was already leaked quite a while ago, but Toronto just officially revealed their bland and uninspired new primary:

Respectfully disagree.

I don't think its great but I don't think every kit under the sun needs some pattern or something to look clean. Some times solid colors look good. Liverpool home kits basically for the last 20 years a perfect example, and really the only thing I would change about TOR's is that I'd make the shoulder stripes gray. Otherwise I like it enough.

I like it, I agree with @WarriorFight, grey stripes would help it out a bit, and I think the inclusion of grey shorts would help break the color and spruce it up.

These are the first shots I’ve seen of the full Whitecaps primary kit, including socks:

DzVL6lRVYAIeu3A?format=jpg&name=large

The socks could’ve used a navy stripe IMO, or preferably the same hoop design that’s on the shirt. This is still the best new kit that’s been released so far, though, followed closely by the Timbers’ new primary.
