Community Members with Successful Sports Designs

I was thinking about the years this community has been around and the amazing skills some of the members have.  Patrick Cummings (PCGD) used to be a regular and he is now with Adidas and has designed many logos used like for the Shamrock series.  I remember when one of our member's logo design was chosen for the 3rd of the Manitoba Moose and now is the primary logo (was it Nitroseed?).  So it just got me thinking it'd be cool to hear from all the designers here about what sports logos being used (or that were used) out there are their work.

Technically, Joe Bosack is a member of the community, and he's designed everything that board members don't complain about.

Frazer Davidson too.

The Gameplan Creative guy (Tom O’Grady/NeverSayNever) was a member of the boards, but he was a dick to everybody here because he lost any and all interest in polite discourse. If you’re a professional in the business, try to conduct yourself in a civil manner like @andrewharrington.

There's a term for this phenomenon but I don't remember it

theres a lot of professionals here, some dont  make themselves known or lurk, but the “sports design industry” is well represented around these parts.

to add to those mentioned, theres also GFB, who runs his own agency and has been crushing some elementary school branding of late.

Means is also a coworker of Harry’s, and works on a lot of NHL branding.

Kris Bazen is around from time to time, he worked on a few of the UA football projects over the last couple years including Cal and UCLA. you might also know him as the “buffaslug” guy :D

the Torch Creative guys got their "start" here. they do a ton of branding and designed the current CCSLC logo

and Melenhead and i work on the Dolphins stuff you see daily. (or i work on it and he tells me if its ok or if it sucks). ive also done projects for the ATL Falcons, ESPN, NASCAR, and maybe Eldora Speedway counts? also, lots of football coaches, branding their businesses or camps.

also, have to mention Brian Gundell who used to be a member and who am working with on the branding of Baseball New Zealand

What's the definition of success? I had a minor league football conference adopt a logo I designed. Unfortunately they disbanded this season I have heard.

I call a team high school or above using your design pretty successful.  Obviously the AHL is cooler than the high school level but not many people have had their design used by either in the grand scheme of things.

Nah. My work is too good, thus it always gets cut before it makes to the ice/court/field.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

Means did a real nice job on re-working the current Maple Leafs' logo....did some of the World Cup of Hockey teams logos also, I believe.

@McCarthy has put out a LOT of great work lately and while I don’t think it’s been picked up by any pro sports teams (you dumb, FCC) it’s gotten a few hits with merch companies such as Hat Club. TONS of potential there, and he’s by far my favorite designer here for several reasons, but mainly because he’s been a contributor here for so long and is now finally making some headway in the industry. That’s awesome to see.

I’m also a buster ass designer and I somehow fell bass ackwards into a job in the graphic design department with a pro soccer team. I designed the third kit last season and it looks like they may give me even more say next year. Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, in this corner over here...I mean, I used to be a print production & prepress editor, did some work for Kurt Angle and the WWF as well as the Steelers' 75th anniversary celebration some years back--but other than that, I got nothin'. ?

Anyway, for my part, I've seen (and in some cases, "tutored", I suppose) several young up-and-comers who've gone on to do some big things, the aforementioned McCarthy being one of them. There's also Raysox, who (last I knew) did some work with the Tampa Bay Rays. Many may not remember McCall, but he managed to get some work published/used as well. And then of course, we have mcrosby, whose portfolio of work is something else. I'm not sure of any of his work got picked up by anyone or not, though.

Also not to be forgotten is my man drdougfresh, who's been crushing it in his corner of the business world (he does a lot of marketing and advertising campaigns). I'm not sure if Matthew Wolff is/was a member here or not, but if he is/was, there's another one. I do know jaha32 (or is it 23?) is a member here and has produced a lot of great work over the years. I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting...charge it to my head, not my heart.

It's great to see and track all the young guns who've come through here (or were young when they first came through here, lol) go on to making it happen in the design game. Props and big ups to all of y'all!

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

I think @raysox had something used by an amateur soccer league/team in Michigan.

Yeah! So I did the logo for Oakland County FC in their first season when they were Oakland United. Nike’s Matt Wolff did their current one.

I also did league logo for their first league, the Great Lakes Premier League, and then what it became the Premier League of America. The latter finished 6th on Chris Creamer’s new league logos of 2016.

Other than that I’ve done a few other small soccer teams.

I interned with the Tampa Bay Rays last year like Brandon just mentioned, but now I’m working at the Women’s Tennis Association in St. Pete full time.

My biggest claim to mainstream fame is actually something I didn't too, but something I put together based on all of the speculation and hints on this board that happened to go viral.

Back in 2011, we were all speculating on the new Marlins uniforms, especially after the new logo was released. Going off of that logo and all of the hints that were dropped here by the 2 users that had seen them (and it wasn't much, crumbs really) several of us frequent contributors put together our concepts of what we thought the new unis would look like. I finished mine about a week before the actual unis were debuted and I was the last (as far as I know) user to contribute anything, and...well...I damn near hit the nail on the head. So much so that mainstream news media took my posting here and ran with it as an actual link, despite the fact that the name/number on the jersey backs was "ROBBMAN" & "21". Even the NY Times posted an article online about it. It was everywhere as "The Marlins new 2012 uniforms!" If you Google "Marlins Uniform Leak", the top several images are all my concept, and even though the latest leaks have pushed the 2011 story down the search results a few notches, you can still find plenty of the articles from that time archived online. So there you have it, my greatest national success has so far been only a very successful guess that I thought would never leave these boards and yet spread like wildfire.

Aside from that, this season the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters basketball team will be wearing warm up and traveling gear designed by yours truly, and earlier this year I had a chance to do some new tee designs for Gas Monkey Garage, the Dallas-based auto shop featured on the Discovery Channel show "Fast 'n Loud". I've linked the Google search to my Marlins concept below for those who aren't familiar with it.
