2018-19 NBA Season - New and improved!

Ok so, odd for the NBA I know, but this whole AD Pelicans thing is getting really weird. The NBA has threatened to fine the Pels up to $100k for every game they sit Anthony Davis.

My question is, how and why is this rule even enforceable? It should absolutely be the Pelican’s right to sit him if they don’t want him to play. And if they’re really that serious about it, why they don’t just circumvent it by having him take the tip, calling timeout, and yanking him from the game immeditely? I get that it’s probably a bad look to sit Davis the rest of the season, but they should be able to do what they please with their own players. Why even risk him getting hurt when it’s out in the open that he doesn’t want to be there and that he’s going to be moved?

Thank the Spurs and Gregg Popovich for such a rule.  His "healthy scratch" policy is the culprit.  The Spurs were fined $250K in 2012 for sitting star players down at the end of a six-game road trip.  This was when Tim Duncan, Parker, Manu, and Danny Green were in the terminal of MCO (Orlando International) awaiting a Southwest flight back to San Antonio when their next game was in Miami.

Granted, it was easy to get one-way flights on Southwest because they played Wednesday in Orlando and it would've been a back to back with TNT Thursday Night coverage.

I remember that. I think he even listed the injury as “They’re old” or something  like that on the official report. I thought it was a bad decision back then, too. I get the whole, the fans want to see the stars angle, but nobody is going to Pelicans games anyway so... 🤷‍♂️

As a whole, you are correct, but in terms of team ticket sales, as you know, it matters. An Eastern Conference partial season ticket holder (Half or Quarter plan) knows that they're buying either Lakers or Warriors off the jump.  The secondary major team/player within that package was likely OKC, Spurs, or Davis and the Pelicans.  It sure isn't Lilliard, Booker, or Mitchell and the sales staffs back 12 months ago had no clue where Luca would wind up.

I know they were resting Giannis, but... how can we just casually handle Milwaukee but lose by that same margin to Phoenix or Cleveland? This is the strangest team I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen quite a bit of bad Magic, City, and Rays teams.

Goodbye Seattle. Hellooooo, Toltecs!

I love how smaller teams are finally standing up to the Lakers/any other big market team trying to strongarm them. This season feels like one of my stupid 2K saves where I turn all rules off and just watch the chaos.

Your Magic handed my Bucks a very rare loss this season yesterday. Congrats on that. But I gotta admit, it is pretty cool having my hometown team as the BEST team in the NBA right now, never thought I would be able to say that.

Well, we only won because Giannis was out. But, as someone that's always had a soft spot for the Bucks (I loved how they were a "Christmas-y" team when I was younger, with a green/red color scheme and a logo that I thought was a reindeer), it's nice to see them on top as well. I was too young to care about sports when the Magic were a perennial contender with Dwight Howard (although my dad and I did go to game 3 of the 2009 Finals), so the next time the Magic start winning again will be the first time I have ever actually cared about a good Orlando team. Unless Orlando City finally gets their stuff together, which would also be appreciated :D.

My profile picture, for the first time since 2012, may soon not apply anymore. We're currently beating up on the (admittedly tanking) Hawks by over 20 as well.

Lol, I'll give you that but what's crazy hearing you say that, is I was also a Magic fan when I was in grade school. I loved Shaq before he signed with the Lakers. I had his poster on my wall and a jersey tee.

This is trolling, right? He has to know how this looks when it's tweeted minutes after the Red Sox and Patriots win championships.

Remember when Bill guaranteed 67 wins for the Celtics this year? Weren't they all supposed to be high-fiving each other while their 12th man dunks to put them up by 40 in garbage time? What happened?

Hey, some of us have basketball as our number one and don't care about the Patriots one iota and are exceptionally frustrated with this underachieving season!

Sure, of course. Simmons, however, cares deeply about the Red Sox and Patriots so it's a bad look to immediately jump into sports bitching the minute one sports thing doesn't go perfectly for him. THAT'S HOW THE REST OF US LIVE ALL THE TIME! It comes across as very spoiled and out of touch, which I guess is what he is.

Hindsight is 20/20, of course, but the expectations for this team were all a little much. I see their problems as:

1. Hayward understandably not being back up to game-speed this year

2. Kyrie doesn't integrate well with the rest of the offense

3. Their hot-stuff young bucks have been burdened with too-high expectations or just downright bad (Rozier!)

4. An inability to overcome injuries to unheralded-but-important rotation guys

And yeah, something seems off in the locker room.

Watched Suns-Kings yesterday, battle of top 2 picks. Marvin Bagley had his best game so far and beasted whenever the Kings fed him the ball. Meanwhile Ayton seemed to be doing damage whenever he touched it, but he got fed it very infrequently, and Phoenix went down again. Seems like a pretty dire situation in the desert. Booker is talented, but seems to be more of a stat sheet filler and cared more about complaining to the refs and doesn't play D. That fanbase seems to have a lot of apathy now, with the way losing has seemed to set in annually. Phoenix is obviously a transplant city, but the Suns are their oldest franchise by 20 years and would seem to have support in general(then obviously the Coyotes). Yet now when say the Warriors go there, its basically seems like a Steph Curry fanfest.
