Lol Kristaps. Whatever.

Adam Silver :censored:ed up in 2016. Durant shouldn't have been allowed in Golden State. This is all a response to that.

Okay, sure on AD, but leave Porzingis out of this; no one competent deserves to be banished to the Knicks.

I get it, the Knicks FO is a wet, sloppy fire-barrel of rat feces, but god damn.  The same old song and dance of

1.  Talented player goes to franchise that basically tanked in order to acquire said player

2.  Talented player proves that he is indeed talented

3.  Team doesn't win much right away

4.  Talented player demands trade to Lakers, Warriors, or next best thing

gets so, so tedious.  NOBODY wants to waste their primes playing for a loser, and as somebody who keeps their ear to the ground regarding the hapless, woeful Chicago Bulls, I know more than most what it feels like to follow a franchise that has lost its way, but fix the goddamn CBA.  The max contract thing failed - reframe it, incentivize the HELL out of staying, perhaps even to the point where the player gets a stake in ownership or a percentage vote in all player acquisitions, etc.

Not every :censored: ing all-star should get to take their ball and go home whenever their teams are currently bad.

The Knicks are always listed as a potential landing spot for every big name free agent, but being in New York doesn't automatically let them overcome the fact that they're so poorly run. It's just comedy at this point.

It had a lot to do with the Chris Paul/Lakers fiasco that David Stern screwed up.  Silver didn't want to get involved, and honestly I can't blame him.

Ring-chasing cowards, all.

Anthony Davis, now Kristaps Porzingis.  It's nothing new, but it's intensely frustrating as an NBA fan with no real team loyalties.  In these instances, why even have more than 8 teams in the league?  Contract across the board and stop kidding yourselves.

Time to truly review the rules and decide how much the talent deserves to set the conditions.  This is absurd.

Agreed with everything but the contract to 8 teams part. Every now and again a small(er)-market team can stay competitive—see the Spurs from 2000 up to a couple years ago.

That said, this ring-chasing-in-your-prime business needs to stop. As a Jazz fan, I get Karl Malone pulling a Ray Borque and going to the Lakers in his last year, as John Stockton had retired and Malone wasn’t winning a title in Utah by that point. But doing it in your prime just marginalizes teams that, due to their location/market size/overall general popularity, cannot attract big stars.

The next CBA needs to put an end to the super team or else it’s going to be ugly. Of course, the next CBA negotiations (When are they set to happen again?) are going to be ugly as well.

Exactly.  Malone, Payton, Garnett, Allen - they all went on a Ring Chase in their final seasons after spending their primes winning the hearts of franchises that likely all could've won titles if Jordan wasn't Jordan.

I don't get this at all. Kristaps is still 23 years old, the Knicks have three very promising rookies in Knox, Robinson and Trier, they are setting themselves up for drafting Zion (or one of the other top 4 prospects) since they weren't going to compete this season without Porzingis anyway, and a chance to sign a top free agent in the summer.

It doesn't make sense for KP to want to be traded.

James Dolan is all the reason anyone needs, really, but I guess they think they can land Durant and get Zion.

Either way, it pisses me off.

These are all rational reasons for encouragement for a basketball team, but also not the rational reality that the Knicks occupy.

The reports seem to suggest that Porzingis initiated this. Could be a parlor game with people playing the Woj/Shams tweet industrial complex, of course. But it is convenient for the Knicks to suddenly have a ton of cap space to start fully fresh this summer.

KG has said that he wished he had been less loyal to Minnesota so it's not surprising that younger guys would want to get out of a place they're not totally fond of.

NY got a ton of cap relief today, so maybe they're making room for Durant or Kyrie. At least those moves are now possible. And given the choices between KP or KD, I'd prefer Durant too. Even at their relative ages.

Luka and Kristaps sounds like a lot of fun. Plus Cuban gets another euro player as he all of a sudden hates Americans. Godspeed Mavericks.

Yep. Or, in the case of Utah, I also blame the 1998-99 NBA Lockout and the subsequent 50-game 1999 season that that followed that buried the Jazz’s next best chance at a title. I have a feeling the NBA finds itself in this situation after the next CBA.

Mark Cuban really doesn't hate US-born players, GM Donnie Nelson does.

Also, NYK is looking at a top 3 draft pick too.  Remember, the new draft lottery rules take effect for the 2019 Draft.

Not that this is any revelation to anyone, but the Knicks are so goddamn dumb it almost hurts.

Time for another Sixers-style office coup, but for the Knicks.

Am I missing something here? The Knicks are bad but the Mavericks are right at the bottom with them.

Durant was a free agent. You can't force him not to go to certain teams.

I believe the issue was that the Warriors had the ability to sign Durant because of an unprecedented jump in league revenue causing a commensurate jump in salary cap space, which the league wanted to mitigate by distributing the new cap space across several years rather than a lump sum, so to speak, but couldn't.

Warriors were just smart enough or underhanded enough, depending on people's point of views, to take advantage of the situation.
