Western Melbourne Group - which was granted a Hyundai A-League expansion franchise this past December - has partnered with the Herald Sun newspaper to conduct a fan vote to determine the team's name and colors.

Victoria residents 18 years of age and older can cast their votes here. The voting period began this past Saturday, February 2nd and runs through Sunday, November 3, 2019.

Candidate names and colors were culled from suggestions made by supporters who took part in a survey at a Community Forum the club hosted in August of last year. Said candidates are:

Team Names
Western United FC
Western Melbourne Athletic FC
Western Pride FC
Western Melbourne Warriors FC

( Participants can also submit a name of their choice for the club.)

Team Colors
Red
Black
Green
White

It'd be interesting to have them partner with the Aussie Rules code team and just call themselves "Western Bulldogs AFC"

Honestly, I could foresee that going over very poorly, if only because most of the Bulldogs' fans want them to revert to the old Footscray name, not further entrench "Western."

Well, despite announcing just last month that it was partnering with the Herald Sun newspaper to conduct a nine-month fan vote to determine the team name and colors for its Hyundai A-League expansion franchise, Western Melbourne Group apparently received enough feedback in ten days to make a decision.

The team, to be based in the southwestern Melbourne suburbs, has been named Western United FC and will sport official colors of green and black. It is thought that the club's home kit will feature green and black stripes.
