TruColor
Here's my latest plan, based on the fact that the NBA has been talking about realigning the teams into six divisions now we've got the Bobcats comin' in:EASTERN CONFERENCEAtlanticBoston CelticsNew Jersey NetsNew York KnicksPhiladelphia 76ersWashington WizardsCentralChicago BullsCleveland CavaliersDetroit PistonsMilwaukee BucksToronto RaptorsSoutheastAtlanta HawksCharlotte BobcatsIndiana PacersMiami HeatOrlando MagicWESTERN CONFERENCEMidwestDallas MavericksHouston RocketsMemphis GrizzliesNew Orleans HornetsSan Antonio SpursNorthwestDenver NuggetsMinnesota TimberwolvesPortland Trail BlazersSeattle SuperSonicsUtah JazzPacificGolden State WarriorsLos Angeles ClippersLos Angeles LakersPhoenix SunsSacramento KingsWhat do you think, sirs? lucky
Geographically, it probably makes some sense to move Indiana back to the Central. I know the Colts are in the AFC South, but nothing about Indiana screams Dixieland. This would allow the Wizards to go to the Southeast, giving Charlotte a closer rival. Filling in the middle step, let's put the LeBrons in the Atlantic and call it the Northeast. Yeah do that. Do exactly THAT
-kj
Actually, Toronto would be a better team to move than Cleveland. But the rest makes some sense. Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop! Brick
That alignment breaks up the Pacific Coast teams. Also, Minnesota is in the same division with Seattle and Portland. My understanding was that the Twolves wanted less Pacific Coast travel. I guess they don't like it the way the Wild do. Also, the Grizzlies don't want to be in the Western Conference. I propose 5 divisions:Pacific: Golden State, L.A. Clippers, L.A. Lakers, Portland, Sacramento, SeattleCentral: Dallas, Denver, Houston, Phoenix, San Antonio, UtahMidwest: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, MinnesotaSoutheast: Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis, Miami, New Orleans, OrlandoAtlantic: Boston, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, WashingtonThe Pacific teams are kept together. The Texas teams are kept together. Also, as a side benefit, if the two best teams are in the same division, they end up on opposite sides of the draw and end up in the final. The Division winner gets the #1 seed and the Runner-up gets #6 seed.
Brick
Here's a link to where I last saw realignment discussed by David Stern.
Mac the Knife
If Stern wants the sort of radical realignment that would make Bud Selig proud, he could consider this...AMERICAN CONFERENCEEastern DivisionBoston CelticsNew York KnicksPhiladelphia 76'ersCharlotte BobcatsAtlanta HawksCentral DivisionChicago BullsCleveland CavaliersDetroit PistonsIndiana PacersMemphis GrizzliesWestern DivisionSeattle SuperSonicsPortland Trail BlazersDenver NuggetsUtah JazzPhoenix SunsNATIONAL CONFERENCEEastern DivisionNew Jersey NetsWashington WizardsMiami HeatOrlando MagicToronto RaptorsCentral DivisionMilwaukee BucksSan Antonio SpursDallas MavericksHouston RockiesNew Orleans HornetsWestern DivisionGolden State WarriorsLos Angeles LakersSacramento KingsLos Angeles ClippersMinnesota TimberwolvesGranted, the T-Wolves would get hosed with road trips to California, but otherwise I think this isn't too bad... CubsFanBudMan
With all due respect, fellas, break out a map for a second. No way should Minnesota be sent out West... or Northwest. The Twin Cities are located on the Mississippi River, just like Memphis and New Orleans. If anything, because of their northern location, it would make more sense to find a way to put the T-Wolves into the Eastern Conference with the Central teams. Obviously, breaking up divisions makes that harder to do, but still, so often we look at east-west for alighnment when north-south can make sense, too. I believe Milwaukee and Chicago are the closest NBA cities to Minnesota. Putting them with Portland, Seattle, etc., also forces them to cross two time zones. Seems a little much.
