Ferdinand Cesarano
I lament the growing use of the term "World Series Champions" in place of the proper title of "World Champions". Some sense of magnitude is lost. That older sense of magnitude was present in a book I read several years ago about the history of the Mets. (Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the book or the author right now! Sorry!) It had a description of the end of the 1969 World Series that stated that the game was played in the borough of Queens in the City of New York in the United States on the planet Earth in the Milky Way galaxy. And then it said that, at such-and-such a time, on October 16, the Mets became champions of all of it.Now, that captures the feel of what you actually win when you win the World Series, albeit exaggerated a bit to the galactic scale. I think that "World Series Champions" falls short in this regard, and that "World Champions" is more appropriate.

I'm not sure that in any sport other than Football can a major league club claim to be the "World Champion."Unfortunately, it can never be decided who is the world champion, because it isn't fair to have the champs of the different leagues (Japan, etc.) play the WS champs because everyone builds their teams under different rules. CC97
Let's not forget the Marlins wore a "World Champions" patch all of last season -- I thought that was kinda neat. --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram
omnivore
I think it's a great idea. And I think that World Champions jersey is really neat, even if it's a bit hokey for today. Though it'd serve as motivation for other teams if that team wasn't as good. Like, if you were in a 10-game losing streak, wearing that jersey might get old. But it could be inspiration at the same time. Brian in Boston
I'm a Massachusetts-born-and-bred die-hard Boston Red Sox fan and I think this is assenine. Behave as if you've been there before... even if it was better than eighty years ago. Will professional sports franchises stop at nothing to generate a few extra bucks of merchandising revenue? FiddySicks
i think they should wear gold jerseys. and instead of saying RED SOX on the front it should say; FLUFF YOU YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE BEAT YOUR BITCH ASSES!!!!!! i think that would get the point across, and rub it in just a bit as well On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) philly97flyer
Yea but still, this is getting ridiculous. Im not even a Yankees fan. As a matter of fact, I hate them, but this is just stupid. Well, unless you've grown up diehard Sox fan all your life and grew up in the area, it's pretty much impossible to understand what this meant to us. We are going to take in as much of this as humanly possible. We as a collective group waited for this for 86 years and we know how precious these moments are, so you better beleive that we're going to milk the ever-living plop out of it. The only way to really understand is to be as crazy as we are. Don't get me wrong, I think all teams in every sport should do a patch to commemorate a championship. But the gold outline, and the fact that they're just wearing it in front of the Yankees is dumb in my opinion.

TFoA
I like it. I think they should wear it strictly for the opening series, just so, ontop of the ring celebration, they can let the damned Yankees know who won the World Series last year
schtee
the gold trim on the red lettering makes it similar to the nationals' unis. @aghease
Magus
Act like you've been there before, boys.Actually, I kinda like it. for the sox fans, the last time they won the world series prior to last season was when Woodrow Willson was in office. nobody on the sox was alive when they last one. as for the gold out line, gold wouldn't look bad incorporated in to the scheme. i kinda like it. jamesjduncan
I think it looks like plop, honestly. I don't know what else to say about it. On the photo, the contrast of the gold and red is wretched. The Sox have a cool uni that has stood the test of time. No need to fluff with it. tmorss9
Brian's right... As a Sox fan I have to say, act like you've been there before, and you're going back soon.As far as a design, its ok looking, not great by any means. My question is why did this need to be done? Isn't handing out rings enough? "Hats for bats. Keep bats warm. Gracias"
